Hey all,
With a heavy heart I am writting this post.  My 18 month old, GREAT HUNTER, black lab is gone.  She didnt run away, as when she runs, she runs with family dogs next door.  A neighbors dog just disapeared too. Another great hunting dog.  They just up and vanished.  I have called EVERY neighbor, the radio stations around, the police, the animal clinics and shelter and no sign of my baby.  :(  I live out in the country so she only gets tied up when shes in heat, and she wasnt in heat.  Shes just gone.  :(  If shes found, Ill let you know, but if anyone hears of other dogs "missing" let me know? Thanks!!

I'm sorry to hear this....I understand this happens more than you would think!  this time of year its an easy way for some_____ (enter expletetive here) to get a trained gun dog for free!  I also wouldnt put it by the lovely PETA folks who have been documented to grab dogs from hunting familys and put them into non-hunting homes thinking the animals are better off there!  But there is nothing to say, whatever the circumstance,  I'm very sorry for you, its a terrible thing for anyone to go thru, and I hope you get your friend back.... sad3.gif ::banghead::         -thunderpout

sad3.gif  Today I got a call from the Hutchinson Animal Shelter and they said someone brought Lillie in today.  They then proceeded to tell me that they brought her over to the Hutchinson Vet Hospital as it "appeared" She was hit by a car.  I called there right away and they wouldnt tell me anything.  I called a friend and they came over to sit with the kids while I ran.  It WAS her.  Shes hurt pretty bad.  I dont know more than that.  I dont know if the dr is going to call me tonight like he promised, but I will update.  I cant cry anymore.  She was my best friend.  Please pray for Lillie, keep her in your thoughts.  I hope that tonight the dr will tell me that she is going to be ok.  Im still not sure how they knew for sure it was her, but they did.  The hospital was going to call me, but I beat them to it.  Please Pray for my pup.......   thanks! sad2.gif

Hi Everyone, Please KEEP Lillie in your prayers.  Wednesday when we got to the Pet Hospital, we found that Lillie had drank some water and the vet knew how upset I was so he did XRays, He said that it was "hopeful"  I took that to heart!  He kept her another day and said lets see.  So I said ok.  I called this morning and he said that I was going to have to work hard with her, but looked good for a full recovery.  OMG.  You dont know HOW HAPPY  ;D  I was!!  (AM)  I have to empty her bladder for her, She can stand and walk a little but not to much.  She has an infection, but on meds.  And if in one week, her bladder doesnt come back, then it never will and we will have to put her down.  BUT since shes home now, and shes come this far, since they told me they were putting her down, IM HOPEFUL!!!!!!  Please keep us in your thoughts!  I think that REALLY worked!!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!

That's awesome to hear.  It sounded like the girl was already gone.  Hopefully she can make a full recovery and live 15 years!

Harmony, I'm so happy to hear she's doing better.  I'll keep praying.  Tomorrow I'll be in my "special place" and I'll think of Lilly and ask God to help her heal.  Just be sure everyone keeps giving her all the love you can so she feels supported and encouraged.

God bless you all.

Harmony,  I hope and will say a prayer that Lillie has a full and speedy recovery.  Dogs are tough and will surprise you time and time again as to the powers they have to get over illness or injury.  Keep things positive and all will hopefully work out for the better.

Now, I will be the one to say this.  Please buy your dog a kennel run.  It matters little if you live in the country or not.  I've had 2 friends who said the same thing as you and they both lost their dogs to cars too.  One found his dead in the woods a year later.  50 yards off the road, front end all busted up.  Not a great way to find your buddy...  They both have since installed kennell runs.  You owe it to your dog!  Some people say they don't feel they are humane, but it is very humane, as opposed to being hit by a car.   Plus most people who hit a dog with there car will feel terrible... I feel that we owe society the utmost ability to contain our dogs so we don't have to put a burden on anyone else but ourselves.

Did your neighbors dog return?

Again, not trying to be a jerk, but please for Lillie and any future dog(s) you get, introduce them to a kennel and keep them in it when unsupervised.

Good Luck!

Ken

  • My FIRST duck!!
HI!  I have been really busy with the 6 kids, 3 are under the age of 2 and the 3 older ones with school and all and Miss Lillie.  She is doing GREAT!!  She Finally started to express her own bladder sunday. She heard me say that if she couldnt do it by monday I was going to have to put her down since I didnt want her to live like that.  She is walking wonderfully. Not recovered. But getting better.  We havent taken her out hunting, (duh) but Dale and I went out to put back up the deer cam, (if someone can help meresize Ill show pics) and we brought our guns to do a little pheasant walk before dinner, and low and behold here comes Lillie.  Naughty dog, chewed thru her chain! LOL  So we walked really slow and it was easy walking where we were and not far.  She did great, got up a bird and seemed happy.  Her tail will still need to be removed but she got her functions back and shes even playing a little with the other pups.

On a side note, we did get a kennle run thing.  Chain link fence for dogs with a dog house and then a rope, (I now have to replace) so she can be out of the kennel when we are outside, but always unable for any of my pups to run about.  A woman heard about Lillie and dropped off a 4 month old Golden Retriver with papers for the kids.  So now I have 3 dogs.  But at least I got the kennel and dog leads so they cant run.

So thank you SO MUCH for praying for my gal.  I think thats what made her heal as well and as fast as she has.  Shes a tough girl!!  And again, if you can help me resize pics, I will post pics of her.  I have a ton now~LOL

Great to hear Lilly is on the mend.  I actually thought about you and her alot while I was out hunting.  Got lots of time sitting in a deer stand to talk with the big guy.  I meant to send an email but every time I get in front of the computer, I get too busy with other stuff -- sorry.  Well I won't stop praying for her.  Congrats on the new pup; that was extremely generous of them to give you a dog.  I got 3 dogs too; every night is a "3 Dog Night."   ;D
