FYI...

Starting at noon on August 13, 2007, all remaining licenses will be made available to anyone, whether or not you applied in the lottery.

For the 2007 season, surplus licenses are available in: Area 22 (63 licenses), Area 24 (158 licenses), and Area 45 (266 licenses).

If you applied - they are available August 6th at noon.

BearGuide,

if I applied in the regular lottery and was drawn (Area 51) can I also buy a surplus license in a different area?

The reason I ask is that I am going to be moose hunting in Area 22 (BWCA) during part of the bear season--if I'm not eligible for one of the surplus licenses, I'll have one of the other members of my moose hunting party try to purchase a surplus tag.  Heck, as long as we're going to be paddling around in the BWCA looking for a moose, we might as well try to take a bear down if we can, too.

I would call the DNR.  I do not see why you can not purchase a surplus tag for another zone.  I would think the rule would be just one bear regardless.  You should have the rest of your moose party get licenses as well.  Read closely about the BWCA bear hunting regulations.  Good luck!
