Ely area lakes: August 15th

Fishing for walleyes varies from lake to lake.  Basswood seems to be the most consistant, while most others in the area have slow action. Many of the eyes on BW are being caught in 8-12 FOW on the reefs.

All lakes report excellent smallmouth action, with large numbers of fish  being caught.
Northerns on Shagawa are still in shallow water, with small suckers being the best bait.

Denny at Smitty's reports decent trout action, great bass fishing, and walleyes being taken in the morning and evening.


Sunfish, crappie, and bluegill was very good several days ago, with some 13-15 inchers being taken on Fall lake.

Hey Jim,

Enjoy reading your reports. You have been very consistant with weekly reports and it's much appreciated. It was nice to be able to catch you at the shop last month. I sure wish I was back up in Ely again. I'm getting sick of the jet skiers and water skiers around here.

You are right about one thing those smallies are rough, mean and tuff. Sounds like your fishing the wrong lake.
