The surface temps have been dropping on the lakes and one can hope this will pick up the walleye bite, which has been slow for the most part.

Ron at Smittys on Snowbank reports excellent bass fishing in 18-20 FOW. Some Trout are being taken, with downriggers as the best methiod. Walleyes in 22-25 FOW, few coming in.

Jim at Shagawa Inn says guests are having good luck on bass (8-10) and walleyes are picking up in 10-12 FOW, leeches working but some fishermen are switching to minnows.

Burntside walleyes have lockjaw, many in about 21 feet, but ignore most everything. Bass action is very good with a plain hook, small split shot, and a small sucker hooked through the tail being, by far, the best method. Bass and northerns are all over this rig in 18-26 feet. A jig and minnow was not at all productive the other day, too much weight apparently.

For up to the minute fishing reports, call me at 218-365-4744 before 10 am daily. I have 45 years fishing experience in the Ely area, and have owned and operated the Great Outdoors Bait & Tackle for 23 years (over five times longer than any other current shop owner within a 40+ mile radius) If I don't have an answer for you,  will call someone that does, and get back to you. Thank you!
