Well I tried somthing new for me today. i smoked a 8lb. pork shoulder roast for dinner after the game.I started the smoker at 7:00 a.m kept the heat around 240 for the entire day turning it once every hour and a half and finally started soaking the s**t out of it in bbq sauce the last hour.Well it looked and smelled incredible. When i went to cut into it I got really nervouse as the outside was pretty crunchy...Well the inside was incredibley tender and one of the best things i think i have ever cooked. The crunchy skin and tender meat was incredible.. I cannot wait to make another one of these very soon...

i use mainly hickory and apple, apple is my
favorite. cherry is a little bitter for pork.
oak is another good choice for pork.
i like to mix different woods.

I have to agree with you bonehead!  Apple is my go to smoking wood as well!  I have started using Hickory, but still prefer apple.

You can make a cheap pack of hot dogs actually taste like something edible when grilled with applewood.   happy2.gif

I used to get mine at Mills Fleet Farm-but haven't seen any around this year.  I have an apple tree, which offers up a branch once and a great while.  So my next best guess would be to check with an apple orchard?

i dont soak, some say it will give it a creosote taste.
i have did it in the past, as long as you dont put
a lot on at a time. it will last longer, so i think you
could do it with no problems.of course you dont want
the smoke bellowing out like a fright train! 8)
