where would a guy look to find where public hunting land is   along the big river. I see the reserves marked on maps  but I haven't found out where to look for open waterfowl hunting, are there problems with wisconsin rules

Head down to the DNR and get some maps. They have a free one that is pretty good and I believe that you can get "PRIM" Maps that are more accurate. I think they are called PRIM.... ???

Besides that there is an atlas out there that is broken down into counties and they have all the public hunting land marked and very detailed. I will get back to you on the name of that and where to find it.

But if you are local walk into the main DNR building and when you get into the lobby it is directly on your right....go in that door and ask them.

I think Mayfly is referring to the Minnesota Atlas and Gazeteer, made by Delorme.

I bought mine at Gander Mountain about 6-7 years ago for less than $20. I think they have upgraded them quite a bit and are still available at major stores.

The Gazeteer is a great book and covers every section of the state.
