That time of year when the hunting gets a little tougher, birds have wised up.  Stealth mode is important now.  No yelling at the dog, slamming doors is a no-no.  Going the long way around to keep wind in your face.  Looking forward to some cooler weather, freezing up the sloughs and some snow to push the birds into a little more predictable cover, the cattails.

Here are a couple of pictures from right before the deer opener.  My son and I with our birds from a morning hunt with Duey.

Couldn't agree with you more. This is when pheasant hunting is the most fun. I hope I haven't used up all of my hunting passes with the wife already  ;D. Nice pictures.

By the way is that a Beretta Pintail in your sons hand? It looks an awful lot like my gun.

A Montefeltro.  He bought just before this bird season started.  He was shooting an 11-87 before.  This one is quite a bit lighter and better balanced.  Shoots it fairly well, still getting used to it.

Went out with a few friends a couple days ago. Took a few hrs but between the 8 of us we ended up with 15 birds. We could have been done sooner But we had the wrong people in the right places. We quit before we had a limit as all of us and the dog were too tired to think of going on another push. What we were walking was an old pasture that was no longer used. With tall grass and cow humps that were as deep as my legs it was some real tiring walking but with all the birds seen was well worth the effort.
