I really hate to lose my favorite player but if the Twins can get the talent in a trade that other teams are offering, i say trade him asap.

I think a deal will be wrapped up sometime tomorrow (Monday) with the Red Sox or Yankees, with the Yankees having a slight edge.

I really don't think the Sox need Santana as desperately as the Yankees do and are only in the negotiatons to make the Yankees give up a boatload of talent. I i were a Red Sox owner, i'd be very pleased to see the Yankees give up 3 of the four players (Hughes, Cano, Cabrera and a top prospect).

I'm hoping the Yankees up the anti tonight and offer Hughes, Cano and a top prospect for Santana, if I were the Twins, I'd jump all over it.

On the other hand, I'd like to see a Lester, Ellsbury and top prospect offer from the Red Sox too.

What do the rest of you think? Trade him or not? And who would you like in return?

I also hate to lose him, but I think they need to make a move.  I would be fine with either trade, but I would rather see him go to New York and that is not easy to say.  I'm tired of seeing all of our players in every sport end up in Boston.

No one wants to see Santana traded.  The Twins are not going to be able to resign him to a long term deal.  So, I say trade him now while we can get the most for him.  Since there are two big market teams bidding for him right now, we won't get any better offers down the road.  I like the Yankees offer more then Bostons at the moment.

I agree with the rest of you guys, might as well try and trade him because he won't be back after his contract is up. The Twins are too damn cheap and that's why they will never be a contender or have any real shot at winning the series. Pohlad needs to sell the team to someone who wants to win ball games, not just settle for mediocrity. I know they do have 2 world series titles under their belt, but it was merely a fluke, face it the twins got lucky. My prediction is that Santana will be gone by Christmas and Morneau will be out next season too.

He won't be back and we need more then 2 draft picks for him.  Trade him now.  I don't like the NY trade, but if that is all we have then fine.

sorry jjawz,
winning the world series does not happen by luck.
by saying that you try to avoid contradicting your self.
didn't work.

if the playoffs were a one game deal at each tier, if the world series was one game, then yes it could happen with luck.
the way it's set up with best of five or seven games series, it very effectively weeds out luck in place of talent and skill.

as far as Santana goes, might as well trade him for the same reasons mentioned here.
to much talent for u$.

I get what you're saying, and yes I can agree that it's hard to get lucky and win that many playoff games including the world series. However what i was thinking when i wrote the post was the Twins got lucky in having many good young players that all performed exceptionally well in both of those years. The Twins don't start a season thinking thinking they will be world series contenders, it just doesn't happen, they just sometimes get lucky by signing a few no namers that turn into actual good ballplayers.

I was just watching boxing on VS and they were interviewing Ozzie Smith for some reason and asked him about Johan.  Ozzie just said that he will be traded and the team that gets him is lucky.  I am still trying to figure out why they asked him about this.  They asked him 3 questions, the first was about boxing, the second was about Johan and the third was about what he was doing in NY.  I think that if I were able to interview him and could only ask three questions I could come up with something better.
