Im trying to figure out what the policy is on cooking and eating fish in your sleepers this coming ice season on Red in your fish houses
I heard that you can clean your fish and eat them- any truth to that--
which ones can be fillleted, if so; how long do the cleanings have to stay with you? and get counted against your daily limit?  would like to more about this from someone that really knows and get down to the nitty-gritty facts here--Abby?

I would guess that it would be the same on Red as any other lake, save the carcass from the eaten fish and that would be counted towards your daily possession limit.

You will not be able to legally clean or eat walleye while actually on Red Lake.  This is the law for all lakes that have a slot limit on walleye or other species.  The DNR cannot accuratley verify the length of a carcass so the law was made to keep you from cleaning and possessing fillets on lakes with a slot.  This goes for Mille Lacs and Lake of the woods too...

Good Luck!

evenin r&j,
this one has alot of gray area, as labs said you are not supposed to possess fillets on the water or ice,(if a slot or Length limit is in effect for that body of water), but if you show up fri evening and catch your two fish, you can go to shore and clean them and if you eat them before midnight now you can go out and catch your two fish on sat also, and if you do the same once again on sun. but beings you are at the lake and in a sleeper, i don't know what the rules are for bringing fish back out to the ice house and cooking them out there. but if you catch them on fri and eat them before midnight you can fish and keep two more each day as long as the fish you caught are eaten and not in your possession. that is how it was explained to us by a CO. looks like a little chat with a CO is in order for this question.

I think Labs hit it on the head with his answer, I forgot about the slot limit on URL.

Good question Russ-Judy.

Bottom line then labs is no walleye may be fried in the "school house". Only croppidiles.?
