Have made three trips in January.  Fish Thursday - Saturday and come home Sunday morning.  We keep the wheel house at Hillmans.  Crappies have been slow but that is to be expected.  We have caught 8 crappies for the season with 1 of them from the 95 class - the others were in the 12-13 inch range.  We have fished from 3 1/2 - 7 1/2 miles out on the Hillman road.  Mostly we look for a transition area from sand to muck.  Walleyes have been plentiful.  Most of the fish have been caught on demons, crappie knockers, ratsos and genz worm.  This past Saturday a pressure ridge formed on the west side of the road that goes out to the Stony Point area.  The boom was so loud that our house shook and water almost came out of the holes.  I will not be going up for 3 weeks and then I will hit it hard for the rest of the season.  The best fishing is ahead (I hope) as the slabs get on the crappie highway and make their way back to the north shore from the reservation.
I fish not because I regard fishing as being so terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant - and not nearly as much fun.? Robert Traver "Anatomy of a Fisherman"
