Shoot or don't shoot?

Bow hunting, 25 yards away from your ground blind. Not at a full run but moveing at a pretty good clip. Shoot? Don't shoot? what would be your plan of attack?

I would probably see if I could get the deer to stop.  If I couldn't I for sure would let it go.

Same for me. More than likely you'll see that same deer again if you let him go and stay unnoticed.

My opinion on this doesn't matter too much because I dont BOW hunt.  But, I have been up in the stand with my husband while he is bow hunting, so I have experienced it a tiny bit.  I would definately WANT to shoot this buck ~but I have to agree with everyone else so far.  If it was running even a little bit I would not take it...not with a bow anyway.  Now if it was rifle season-heck yeah!!

bow hunting, i try to get him to stop... if he doesn't i don't shoot.  I don't take this shot with the rifle and scope either.  But with open sites on the muzzle loader, I would take it... if it was less then 40 yards.

Ok, I 100% agree that I would not take the running shot but I would be at full draw and sure try to make him stop. I have used a technique several times to stop a running Whitetail. It dos'nt work all of the time but it has worked often. How are YOU going to stop this shooter Buck?

I'd try to stop him with a  or a deer call..most likely a whistle because you might not have the time to do the other.

I have stopped many deer simply by whistling. It has worked for me probably 4 out of 5 times. And when it doesnt work my other family members in other stands are now aware of a deer in the area.

I guess I would be asking myself why I didn't shoot about 30 seconds before this happened!     

But the shot you have presented to us I would not take with a bow. That would be one I would never forget either I would be  for a long time thinking about how close I was!  If I had a rifle that deer is very dead!

I would make a noise to see if i could get the deer to stop.. but otherwise i don't do running shots..  To many people miss on those shots and or  make a hit that doesn't kill them.. and die a slow death over time..

What has worked for me several times during the rut when I know a Buck is close enough to hear is to let out a loud forced burp. A grunt tube wont work because the camera is pressed to my face. and this also keeps my hands free to work the camera. You might laugh but I have stopped bucks on a dime doing this.

with a bow i would never consider such a shot, but with the rifle or muzzleloader he can kiss his tail goodbye, im very good at running shots, especially if he aint moving very fast, but first i would say hey hey HEY, that usually gets them to stop.

Ok, So we got this Buck to stop and he is now standing in the tall grass field at 35 yards and is stareing right at you. Do you take the shot.

i try to keep my shots to 30 yards or less, unless it is a
perfect kill shot, no. but where we hunt is very woody,
so a 30 yard shot is max anyways.

At that yardage I am very confident of my abilities, but looking right at me, no, I would still pass.

If I don't have a clean kill shot, even with a gun (which I use a .357 for) I would not take it.
Yes it would be hard not to, but I have had 150 class deer standing in front of me, and if the right shot is not offered, I let them walk.

I agree! At 35 yards  with a Deer locked onto you to many things can go wrong. Not worth risking a bad hit.

with a bow at 35 yards and him staring at you then he could "jump the arrow" but with a gun and its already shouldered i would take the shot, but not if he is standing straight towards me.

Better be good at shot placement, otherwise you would wreck the back "ham" with the 06.

With a gun, I would wait.

With a bow, no, I would wait to draw

OK Im getting into this late so I gotta catch up.

1) No shots at moving deer even with a gun.

2) I'd make a loud kissing noise to try and stop him. 

3) No I wouldn't shoot at the one facing me straight on at 35.  If it were broadside I would though.  I'd already be at full draw cause I has just blown him a kiss trying to stop him so I'd hold it and wait to see if he turns broadside for me.

Tempted but would have to wait and hope he turned. If I was at full draw I would wait because he has to turn and then I would get him...hopefully. This is me speaking logically among other hunters and on a public forum. I have done dumber things in the past and do believe that I have learned my lesson so known that I 95% sure I would not let an arrow fly.

well not to be a prick....

if the first  deer stoped and gave me a broad side shot i still would not shoot.. deers to small he will be a shooter next year.

second deer very iffffffffyyyyyyyyy for me depending on what time of the season it was. be it early in the season he would have to walk. be it dec 23 and -23 below he would walk  but dec 29 and - 10 he would be dead. but not with a head on shot.
