That's for sure.  What would we do without you GG?       I'd have no one to pick on.   ;D  Thanks for the cool bio.  You're the greatest.  I don't care what anyone says.   ;D

Hey Brian, that's one cool story.  I can't immagine the odds of even SEEING the same deer twice much less the before and after photos that you now have.

OK here's a technical note about the contest.  I and the 2008 MNO Deer Hunting Conteest Executive Board had a request from a new member (who's name shall be with held to protect their virtual identity) to be allowed to participate in this years contest without submitting a photo of them with their deer and weapon of choice.  Said member's computer took a nose dive and he lost all his previous photos.     That does suck!  The executive board and I did a double blind confessional booth style consultation and have since decide to allow said member to participate in this years contest with all the glory and acclimation of all other hunters.  I suggested that said member get a new photo with hunting gear and weapon of choice but that's not a requirement.  However, it shall be required to submit a photo with theirself, deer, and weapon to score any points.

Any arguments against this arrangement need to be presented to the board by 1:30 pm today or they can not be considered.

It's really quite technical as to how we came to this decision but in a nutshell, a new guy wants to join the contest but his computer died and he has no previous photos of him with his gun and deer.  I -- oh uhhh I mean -- "WE" decided to let that slide but he does have to post a photo with deer and weapon to get points.

Umm, the only post I read after the first rules, was GIRLGUIDE, and now I want to be involved. Just so she will come in at least second. :kermit: :newhere:

I hunt opener i Minnesota and with luck tag my freezer meat with a medium to young doe.

But then I live in Arizona, and also hunt the Sonoran desert for those odd shaped big a$$ mulies.

May I play?

Im in.  I started hunting 3 years ago and got a 6 pointer with my Savage .243.  That year only me - the youngest at camp, and Pastor, the oldest at camp got a deer; his was a 8 pointer.

This year I got an early start.  I got a small deer on the opening weekend of archery season.  It was my first deer by bow.  I shoot a Bear Odysee II with Montech 100s for broad heads.  Whoever I get teamed up with will have a quick start with 100 points.  I know I don't have my bow in the picture but were were scrambling to find some other deer that day and I didn't know that rule.  I sure hope the judges will let that slide.   ;D

If I was feelin any better, I'd be dangerous!

Ok here is my bio. I live for deer hunting and dont get to go bow hunting because I just dont have the time. I always go rifle hunting. I started hunting in 1983 and went several years without even seeing a deer. the past ten years have been much better. I hunt in Bemidji on 20 little acres with at least 4 other people so it is crowded. But we have a blast. I use a Remington 742 in 30-06 caliber with a Mueller scope on top. Prior to that I used a Remington 700 in 30-06 caliber with that same Mueller scope on top of it. My pic does not have my rifle in it and I dont have any with my rifle in it unless I get a deer this year, then I guess it will have to be in it.

Good news Faceman.  After several double blind confessional booth style board meetings, the MNO judges have decided to waive the rule of the weapon of choice being "manditory" but highly encouraged.  You're in  :woot:  We'll still need one with the firearm for any deer you get this year for contest points though.

Also, for any new hunters, there is no photo requirement for entry.    We encourage you to have a photo with hunting gear, or in a hunting location or something like that but its not required.  So all new and youth hunters will be given all breaks needed to enter.   ::welcome::

So when are the teams going to be picked?

Good luck GG. You better stick with a doe to get your points. You would be suffering from buck fever so bad it wouldn't be fair to your team members unless you shoot a doe. ;D ;) :whistling:

I will play.

I have been hunting deer since it was legal for me to do so (I think age 13 sounds right).  I usually sit in my stand in the morning and night then make drives with the rest of my group during the daytime.  I have shot several deer both ways.  Last year on opening day I got a doe out of my stand in the morning, one on a drive then two more out of my stand that night.  That did not seem to hurt the poplulation since there are probably more deer in our field this year than there were last.  I have never shot a really big buck and I am fine with that until the rest of the population is cut down.  Whoever is on my team can count on 100 points from me.

I am in. I hunt rifle season in MN, zone 1. I will be using a Remington 7400 30-06 with iron sights. I have not shot a deer yet but maybe this is the year. Hope I dont let my team down. Hope I shoot a bigger one than my dad (Faceman). I hope to paired with him so we aren't competing in the same stand.

I would like to get in and hope it is not to late. My name is Rick Wagner and I hunt Bow and shotgun. I usually hunt the metro area and this year I will be trying to get a muzzleloader and giving that a try. I will be leaving to go to Colorado elk hunting so I rushing back on Sat night to try and get out for shotgun season. I use a Remington 870 shotgun and a Fred Bear bow. I took a nice doe last Thursday but didn't have a pick with my bow in it. I do have a pick with me but no bow so I will hope to shoot another one for any team that I end up on. I have been hunting for 20 years and am really trying to get my boys involved as well. Please let me know if I need anything else to get in.

I got my first buck about two weeks ago, but the pics I took are too big (file size) to post them.  I'm trying to figure out how to make them smaller so I can get my team the early lead.

Here is my short bio.

I started hunting almost 30 years ago with my dad, Pheasant hunting in South dakota was my first hunting experience and i was hooked ever since. I hunt deer in Minnesota every year and alternate between Wisconsin and South dakota. Our property is in Afton minnesota, less than 10 minutes from my current home. It is nice to be so close to home but i really miss the going out of town experience.

Were in a metro shotgun zone, so my weapon of choice for firearms is my 20 year old Remington 1100 with a Bushnell Holosight. For Archery i shoot a Bowtech guardian. I used to hunt Muzzleloader season but the current metro season has been running 4 weekends for the last few years and i just don't have the time between fall Walleye fishing, Pheasant hunting, reg deer season and Waterfowl.

Other than that, I am looking forward to the 2008 seasons. :toast:

WOW this is looking great.  :happy1:  I really want to say  ::welcome:: to all the new members and especially the ones new to hunting.  :fudd: :fudd:  I'm not going to be a real stickler :police:  for the pics but if you have something such as what Younghunt13 used, that would be great.  I've been working nights for the last few weeks so I'm too tired to worry about the small stuff; the pics are really to get us all more motivated  ;D   Im real happy that we have so many interested folks.  Right now it looks like 9 teams of 3.  The more the merrier.

I'll start loading up the computerized computation randomizer today  :coffee: and more can be easily added if they come in at the last second. :coffee:  Anything after Oct 1 will be a bridge we cross at that time but we'll cross it for sure.

Thanks everyone and  ::welcome:: again to all the new guys.  OH YEAH - Rickwags- do we work together??   I work with a Rick Wagner at Flint Hills.

My name is Jerry.  I will turn 40 this year during the deer season.  I started hunting when I was 13 (bow and shotgun slug).  The first few years were a learning experiance.  I have hunted in what used to be zone 4 in the metro, the north shore, North of fargo, SE and SW parts of the state, near motley, and now hunt up in Cass county on public land (my favorite area).  I don't remember the last season that I didn't get at least one deer.  I have orders from my oldest daughter to get 3 deer this year.  We ate all of the venison in 4 months and she doesn't want to run out again.
Anything that is free is worth saving up for.

I'm in at the last bell!

Name:  James Doerr (jkcmj)

Years hunting: 21
Number of deer taken:  Unknown, with recent years averaging around 4 - should be over 50 total. No big bucks, mostly meat hunting until recently.
Hunting: Wisconsin, Minnesota Bow seasons ,  Minnesota Shotgun
Weapon: Bow - Mathews Switchback XT  ,  Gun:  Remington 870 w/scope (keeps me from shooting at moving targets)  ,  Release: several, whatever was cheap when I lost the last one
Stand:  Ladders, hanging- some commercial, some homemade, platforms nailed in trees, uncomfortable tree limbs where necessary, tree lounge brand climber, and ground blinds if the kids come along.
I will include a photo with the kids as I don't have one of me up on photo bucket yet.

I am in also at the last minute

I started hunting two years ago. I started off with bow hunting and on my first opening day, I shot a doe. Sadly, we did not recover it but I hear that will happen from time to time even more so with new hunters. Last year I did not get to hunt due to injuries, but I hope to make up for that this year. So far, in 2008 I have gotten out only for opener and I saw three does about 80-90 yards away and one just behind my stand but could not get a good shot (brush) so she just walked away.

I am shooting a Diamond Edge bow 40# and I prefer to hunt from permanent stand over looking our food plots. My husband is trying to get me to try a ladder or crawler stand to be more Mobile with him but I do not think that will happen this year. I think to hunt well you need to be comfortable in your setting so I will stay in my few spots over looking the plots this year.

On our land we are trying to grow larger buck so for the most part the young ones get a free ride. Although I am told that because I am a new hunter, I can shoot whatever deer I choose. Therefore, I think my chances of getting a deer this year are pretty good.

I have no pic with a kill but here is a pic from the range.

OK all team member names have been entered into the computerized computation digitizer   :coffee:  and I'll have teams listed here soon.  Each team can come up with their own name (keep it clean) or just go with the number they are listed at.  Any late entries will have to appear before the 1st Ever Annual MNO Deer Hunting Contest Board of Directors   :whistling: to plea for entry to the contest.  For example, I know my 2 boys didn't sign up and I'll have lots of this  if I oh uhh I mean "the board" doesn't let them in.   ;D  It's all for fun so I'm flexible but once a team is created, I'm leaving them as is for the entire contest.

I'll post teams here soon so stay tuned.
