i thought it would be cool to start a topic for everyones report on everytime you go afield it can be for ducks, geese, pheasants, grouse, and deer. give the date and what part of the state you hunt and then a detailed summary of how that outing went. you can also post pictures of your harvest, to show off. ill start.

9/15/08- made it out this morning i got to my job i quickly fed all 26 dogs, all happy to see me and slobering and licking me all over my hunting clothes. i got to the woods and soaked myself head to toe in scent killer, finally made it to the stand by moon light. got to the stand and realized i had left my saftey harness there from saturday morning and o boy was that thing soaking wet. Finally the sun started to come up and nothing came in until just after 7:15am. I stood up to stretch the legs a bit and not 10 seconds later a small buck came charging down the hill behind me, afraid that he seen me stand up i froze. He walked on the trail that leads under my tree stand and stops and starts sniffing the ground were i was standing not more than an hour earlyier. He keeps moving and notices a kitty cat walking on the logs 50 yards to my left and he goes to check it out . I had never seen a deer terrorize a cat before and he did this for about 5 minutes, finally the poor cat ran off and the small buck lost interest. He browsed around for about another 20 minutes and a another small buck comes down from the hill across from me and they start to spare, i slowly sit down and watch. then they both walk off and i have some turkeys come in on the small access road with a huge tom. anyways they fed around for awhile and left.  I got down freezing because my safety harness was wet and went home.

well we werent hunting but we were up by new london last weekend at sibley state park.. Holey moley I have never seen more turkeys in an area in my life. Everywhere we went there were turkeys in that area. Also the ducks were in full force"laughing at us" Knowing they wont be anywhere in sight in 3 weeks.

its a great idea! i havent been out since sunday but that morning i had about 20 does walk with in 10 feet from my stand. didnt shoot because it was still to dark to see my pins, then went out that night by a corn field and had a big six pointer with full velvet come in 25 yards from me. i been watching this buck weeks before the season started and there normally is a big 10 with him, but not that night. we will see if i see him tomorrow night in full velvet.

I went out yesterday evening.  Had a small doe (probably last years fawn) pass by at 25 yds. I drew on her just as she approached a good shooting lane.  As hunting goes, she abruptly turned away from me and nibbled on some hazel brush.  I finally let down as she stepped into the brush.  She appeard again in clear view but at 35 yards so I didn't attempt a shot.  Great time non the less.

Went out last night 9/17 with my uncle in Backus, MN. I passed up a 4pt under my stand. It came out at 6:45pm. That was it for me. My uncle on the other hand had 6 or 7 deer all around him from 5pm until 7:30. He said it was to much fun watching them he didn't want to shoot. He said a pretty nice buck came out and had velvet hanging down about a foot from his rack. He said the rack was bright red with blood. He passed on it because it was only a 2 1/2 year old and wasn't big enough for the wall for his standards. Buck management at it's finest. :happy1:
Let the small bucks walk. Don't assume the neighbors will shoot them if you don't. If you shoot him what chance does that buck have to grow......ZERO!

I've been out a handful of nights and mornings since opener and have seen does and fawns just about every time out.  Was willing to shoot a doe a couple times, but could not get a clear shot with all the foliage that is still on the trees out there.  I am heading back out tonight to try and get one in the freezer.  It would be even better if the wife gets one instead tonight.  She is pretty good with the bow, but has not had much luck seeing anything thus far.  Should be interesting to see if she continues with the sport after she kills her first deer!!!

Sounds Great! i havent hunted an evening at all sense the opener. ill be getting out for an evening hunt tommorow, but today i decided i needed to shoot some stuff so i went out scratch hunting at work(game farm), to get my dog in shape and some of the other dogs also. well went threw the first field and dogs got birdy about half way threw and then nothing so i continued but the one dog wouldnt give up and a hen pheasant came flushing out and flew right past me to the left and i swung on her and BAM! one bird one shot, sweet. then gave the dogs about a 10 minute rest due to how warm it was today. continued on the second feild and right after we started they got birdy again and i told myself if a hen gets up this time ill just let her fly away, but a small bird came out and it was a Chukar and i swung on him and BAM, im on a roll 2 birds with 2 shots.(sporting clays really helps). told myself that if anything came up besides a rooster i wouldnt shoot it. got almost to the end of the 3rd corn feild and out poped a rooster and again BAM 3 birds with 3 shots, if only goose hunting was this easy lol. ill have pictures up sometime tommorow

I sat out this evening, been seeing 6 to 8 deer in the field a night just before sundown.
So, I positioned myself in one of my stands that is in a place where the deer funnel into the feild.
There are so many leaves on the trees that it was hard to make out where they were when they can in.

2 fawns came in first...with spots! Then mama came in behind them. The little ones kept trotting around the bottom of my stand as if they were playing tag. Soon they moved off around 30 yards and mama was now directly under my stand eating acorns. And by under my stand, I mean her side was accually touching the side of the tree!

She wasn't a very big doe and she had little ones still in spots, so I let her walk away with her twins.

I waited till it was pretty dark, then got down and walked up to the house. It was good to be out again.....even with the skeeters!

sat on a hilltop glassing the feilds because didnt really want to go to my stand, and o boy did the skeeters get me, i couldnt beleive how bad they were. hadn't been touched by one all season till yesterday. seen 8 does file out one after another into the hay feild. i stalked up on them to see how close i could get, sweating pretty bad as i got there, i was an easy 20 yard shot that i passed on, didnt want to cut up the deer that night, because i had to get up for work at 6am today. ill wait until it gets cooler out, unless a real big boy walks by then i guess ill have to be real tired for work the next day lol.

Got my 1st of the season last night at 6:40. Mature doe came out and gave me a nice almost broadside shot at 5 yards. I thought I heard something coming in from behind her and was hoping it was a nice 8 point I have pics of but I couldn't see anything then the doe turned and looked away from me and I couldn't pass up the opportunity. 50 yd run and she was done.

sat out last sat. night and didn't see anything...
went out sun morning and 2 nice does bedded down about 50 yards away from me. which was frustrating because that's what I was looking for, a nice meat deer.  oh well... plenty of season to go.  I think I'll move a hanging stand closer to where they are bedding sometime during the day this week and then let it settle down for a week or two while I am duck hunting.

 no one been out lately?

well i went out this morning (9-28) was a tad bit cooler than i had originally planned but always come prepared. got in the tree a little before 6am, which is late in my opinion. :oops1: well at sunrise i had a few come down the 4 wheeler trail at about 40 yards, had a good shot but i wont shoot that far. then later on at about 8am had a promising younger buck walk by me at about 10 yards. seen 6 some more deer on the ridge but couldnt tell what they were, the foilage is still way to thick to see up there from my stand. 5 in a row then couple minutes later the 6th one came so im assuming it was a buck. thats the ridge that my big buck (avatar pic) has been traveling to get to the corn field, but cant get up there because its his core area. just waiting for him to make one single mistake and come from a nights feeding from the hay feild which is located 120 yards behind me. the does have been feeding in there real heavily. havent seen the buck i had seen on opener again either.

Went out Wednesday afternoon. Saw 3 does and 1 fawn. The one doe followed my scent right up to my ladder stand, then looked me right in the face. She turned slowly and walked off. She also chased another doe that was coming in. Might have been her fawn from last year. Went out this mourning and had 1 doe mingling around.

went out again this morning (9-29) got to the stand late, 6:45am, took me longer than normal to get up the tree, also. got up there hung the bow up and started to get comfortable when i heard a twig snap right behind me to the left, knew it was a deer and reached for the bow which is on the right side, bow ended up hitting the bottom of the climber making a BINK noise and deer ran off, couldnt tell you what it was. then couple minutes later a big red fox wondered by and at 5 yards but to bad that season aint open right? well then about half hour later had a few raccon come walking by followed by some turkey which they were followed by a nice coyote which never presented a shot. then finally another decent sized buck came by right underneath me and fed around for about 10 minutes then something caught his attention and he was gone chasing it. another productive morning

I can't believe it, yesterday I missed a doe at 20 feet!   :banghead:
So just how do you do that?  Well I guess if you look at the pins but not through the peep you can.
I guess I just got too excited to remember the little things.   :whistling:

I caught myself aiming without looking through the peep sight on my first bow kill, I almost released but then remembered it.
I hope it never happens to either of us again. Them dang dirty deer!

I spent some time in the woods yesterday evening and had two does come right at me. I was on the ground and they were following a trail trhough a brushy field. Well as they got closer they turned right for me and the lead doe walked to about 20 feet from me stopped and stared. She finally started stamping her feet at me and then I moved a bit and she blew and ran off..blowing the whole way. Was a pretty exciting encounter. She got really clsoe and I was standing up. I couldn't believe she did not see me earlier. I was not out hunting but just scouting. No bow and was wearling jeans and a blasck fleece jacket. If I would of been ready and hunting I would not of taken her. She was a small deer. I think it must of been two fawns.

After a few weeks of stewing about hitting the woods I actually got out tonight.

I took a half-day from work to watch my son as my wife lay in bed sick. At about 3pm when my mother-in-law called and asked if I had anything to do I told I really needed to shoot my bow and make sure everything was kosher with the old hoyt. Got out to my uncles land and started shooting, and there were around eleven deer about 400 yards out in the field so I made an executive decision to sit in one of the stands I had put up quite a ways away from there.

Not much happened until half-hour before sundown when a doe and fawn passed by at about 45 yards, then a 4-point followed ten minutes behind them. After proceeding to hook the bow up, lower it down, and get about halfway down the tree I heard all sorts of movement coming up the hill at a pretty fast pace.

I stayed still and tight to the tree as the walking came towards me. That's the last thing you want to do is flush the deer out of a stand site the first night out, but it was getting too dark for me to be out there and I was about to start barking like a dog to scare 'em out of there. Next thing you know the flash on my trailcam lights up the woods in front of my mock scrape and whatever it was stayed still for about a minute, then walked away.

I guess I'll check the trailcam tomorrow after I go out in the morning to see what it was. Fun night!

Got this guy last night right at the last few minutes of legal shooting. This is my biggest so far and also my first archery buck. He dressed out at 200 pounds.  :woot: Any guesses on what he might score?
