Sorry Pat.  The board of directors  :whistling: tried to get their kid to post and get in on this but he never did  :banghead:  His name was already in the computerized randomizer so that's how he got drawn.  It's supposed to be "The Swan" so I'll change that and since he's a kid and this will be his first year hunting, we'll leave him in.

And thanks Cody for pointing that out.  I guess I missed it some how.   The grave yard shift shall end for me within a few days so my brain should be back to "normal" soon.  My appologies to Wischunter08  for missing that but it will be added in today.

OK here's something I didn't plan for.  When you get one, PM me with the pic and info so I can put your points up.

Please also post it where you want and preferably in your team's thread ohh I mean your "deer camp trophy room."   ;D

Thanks everyone.

Grute I have 3 questions.
1.  What does a buck fawn score if he does not have a legal point?
2.  I will be hunting up north without access to a computer for 2 weeks (I love my wife).  The rules state that the deer must be posted within a week of the kill.  If I shoot a doe opening day and can't post for 2 week will she still count?
3.  How long do the points on the bucks have to be to count them?

Thanks Grute

I'd say a fawn buck would be only 2 points (on his head) so 20 points (on the score card).  He's for sure not a doe so he wouldn't score 100 for the team.

Since you'll be away from a computer and do indeed love your wife,  :queen:  we'll let you send in your photos late.  I only put the time stipulation there so folks wouldn't wait and dump them all in at once.

Now someone else correct me if I'm wrong here -- points have to be 1" or longer (not a ring hanger).

Hope that helps.  Have fun, good luck, take plenty of pictures, and BE SAFE!!!

It states 3 inches long (to be a legal point) in the MN 2008 Hunting Reg. book (page 61).  That is to be considered a buck vs. anterless.  I am not sure of the requirements for length when scoring the larger bucks.

See why I love MNO so much?  OK I think we should go with 3" for any antler to be counted as a points so I guess anything shorter on a spike would be considered a doe right?

1 inch for deer that are not fawns and 3 inches for the button bucks works for me.  It would stink if you shot what you thought was a 100 point doe and it being a 20 point buck.

Just trying to understand. A buck is a Legal buck right? Meaning at least one antler over 3 inches.

And a doe for 100 points is a legal doe (antlerless deer) right? Any deer you can legally use a doe tag on. No antlers or spikes under 3 inches

And last, a point is any point 1 inch or more from a main beam, tine, or burr.  Just like B&C and P&Y.

  Is this right?????

Jewel brought up a good point -- where to post the pictures.  Let's all post our pictures in our own team/camp forum.  You could also send me a PM notifying me but I'll be checking the team boards for results.

There's a 3 way tie for first place right now.  3 teams each with 100 points.

The pressue is on now.

OK here's the claification.  I signed up my middle child who used to sign in as "Swan" or "The Swan" as his sign in but then he created a new one as "Ooberponage" which I had forgotten.  This will be his first year hunting so I know he wanted to be in the contest but he kept forgetting to log in and sign up with his picture...I have him here with me right now and will get him to send in his best pic and a little bio.  Now don't think you have a rookie (even though he is.)  I took him shooting today and he did well with the 20 gauge slugs and also with the 25.06.  He's won a hunt on private land (slug zone) and will also hunt with my and the guys up Nort at my buddie's cabin.

Sorry for the confusion.  I'll log off now and let Ooberponage log in.

I'm very happy and pleased to have him on my team. Having a "next generation" hunter on the team and in this contest is what it's all about.

Ask him to help me pick a good name for our team.

Thanks Pat.  I see that you already picked a name and it's really cool.  Thanks; Young Guns is a really cool name.  This will be my first year hunting and Im really excited because I already have a really good chance at a deer.  I won a hunt at Maple Lakes Farms.  I get to hunt while my Dad sits there with me and watches  ;D  I"ve heard there's lots of big deer in there.  I'l do that one weekend then I'll aslo hunt with my Dad, brother and maybe some friends up North at Pastor's cabin like they have done for the last several years.  For the Maple Lakes hunt, I'll be shooting a Mossberg 500 Bantam Youth model 20 gauge with 5/8 ounce slugs - no scope just the bead and me and my Dad's prayers.  Then when I got up North with the guys, I'll be shooting my 25.06 with 120 grain bullets and a Leupold scope (not sure of the model #).  Since it's my first year ever, I don't have a pic with me with a deer but here's me with my 25.06.  I can't wait to get out there and hunt.

Here's my message to all the deer out there:   :kermit:

OK CVA54, we can let you in but you'll be starting a new team.   If anyone else wants to join we'll put them on your team.

You also get the privledge of coming up with a team name.  At this point, I'll just make it be the next # in line.

We need two more people to sign up for this contest so that CVA54 will have a complete 3 person team.  If we get five more people to sign up for this contest, we will have CVA54's team and another new team.

Don't be left out.  Get signed up!   :happy1:

2008 MNO Deer Hunting Contest

This contest is intended to be the virtual deer hunting camp.  Teams can banter back an forth (keep it clean or else   ) and each team will work towards a cummulative score together.  This is a friendly competition and the winners will be the recipient of braggin rights for a year and get a new title unter their avitar.  There are no celebrities nor staged hunts here.  We are all real people with real life challenges like sick kids, football games, weddings...to challenge us not to mention the white tails don't give up easily.

We look forward to the photos of your deer and the stories to go along with them.  We have heard some doozies in the past so don't hold back.   Extra points will NOT be given for creativity.     We encourage sportsmanship, QDM, and clean kills.

Here is the explanation and rules:

(1) Teams will be chosen at random by our computerzed randomizer    Team size will be based on the total amount interested in order to have even sized teams.  Teams will be announce on Oct 1.  Any deer taken prior to Oct 1 by leagl means WILL count towards the season end score.

(2)  Hunters score by taking a doe for 100 points or a buck for 10 points per legal point.  QDM can go a VERY far way here.  A 10 pointer is 100 points.  So to better your score from that doe you took to put meat in the freezer, you'll need an 11 point buck or better.  If it comes down to a tie breaker, we will count the total number of deer per team and use that as a score.  If we still need a tie breaker beyond that, it will be up to the MNO staff judges (administrators, staff, moderators...) who will chose the winner base on good sportsmanship, skill, photo, and story.

(3)  Hunters can kull their own deer but not for other team members.  Each hunter may only claim ONE deer.

(4)  Proof of each deer killed will be a photo submitted with the hunter, their deer, and the weapon they used all in one photo.  Photos must be submitted within on week of the kill.  No photo with you, the deer and the weapon = no points.  In other words THIS IS MANDITORY to score.

(5)   Deer can be taken by any legal means during any legal deer hunting season.  All deer taken must comply with the laws of the state in which you hunt.  For example, If you travel out west and get a Mule Deer, that will count but it must be a legal kill and you must submit a photo with you, your deer, and your weapon.

(6)  Teams may select a team name as long as its not offensive/socially unacceptable.  If no name is chose, they will be designated by the team number we assign them.

(7)  Contest end -- some members hunt out of state.  What ever state (involved in this contest) has the longest season will mark the end of this season.  If you plan to hunt out of state, you need to submit that with your bio (entry post).

(8)  Required for each hunter:
--  a photo of you with your bow, cross bow, or fire arm
--  clear discription of what your equipment is (sight/scope, release, stand...)
 --  what state/states you'll be hunting in
--  bio - How many years you've been hunting, how many deer you have taken, methods of hunting you've used in the past, what you like the most....

I'm up to join. I'm 12 and will be hunting in Minnesota and South Dakota. So do mule deer count? Just wondering and can I hunt with someone on the other teams?  Like Dennis Servaty? He's my dad. :newhere:

I've been hunting for 38 years in the Upper Red Lake area of Beltrami county in northern Minnesota.  I've lost count of how many deer we've taken over the years.  I use a 30.06 and will post my phots later.  I love everything about deer hunting!

Count me in too!  I hunt up by URL with OJ and the Jim Moline Gang.  I shot a nice six point last year (my first buck).  I use a semi automatic 30.06.  I have been hunting since I was 12.  This is my 19th year.  I will post a picture soon.  Or maybe OJ will help me.   ;D
