My daughter and me sat together in the stand this morning.
We didn't get to shoot at anything, and only saw 3 doe's running through the woods at about mach 10.

We came in for lunch and as we were eating, she asked me..... Can I sit by myself?

I was in shock...I was there when she shot her first buck, in the same stand.
And the memories will keep a smile on my face till I die, every time I recall it!

She said "Don't look so sad dad....we'll be in the same woods" (as she rubbed my shoulder)
She then said, "Don't you think we'll get more if we sit seperate?"

I agreed........So tonight, for the first time, she will be hunting by herself.......

Man, it's hard to let go!

Awww Hunterdown, it's ok!  The boogieman won't get you just because your daughter won't sit with you!   :rotflmao:  Seriously though, that's pretty cool of her to want to try it alone!  :happy1:

Hunter Buddy - it just means you did your job well. She's ready and she wants to test herself at the  next level.
Congratulations. You helped her become a confident independent person girl woman hunter. And yes it's hard but the bonding and comradarie will be just as good at the next level - just a little different.

No Bobby, she sat by herself.

She did text me to come and get her though, cause she was a little uncomfortable walking down the trail back to the house in the dark.  ;D
She said she saw 3 deer, but couldn't get a shot off. She was a little depressed about that, so
I told her that maybe tomorrow she'll get one.

Well, she did it!

She sat by herself this morning. She had a doe come in early but couldn't get a shot. Then another big doe came in and when she stood up to shoot, she knocked the chair over and made a big BOOM that I could hear all the way to my stand. By this time she was really frustrated, and sent me a text saying that she wouldn't get a deer this year cause I wasn't in the stand with her. So, I sent one back saying, the reason you keep seing all the deer is because they know you won't shoot them!  :rotflmao:

Next thing I hear was POW!
Then I get a phone call from her...she was so excited, she could hardly talk! I had to calm her down, and told her to take some deep breaths, and I would meet her over there. Well, she dropped it in it's tracks! A clean heart shot! I gave her the biggest hug! And told her the best part was that she did it all by herself!
Then I told her, the work is just starting! She helped me drag it out to the trail and walked up together to get the wheeler. When we got back she asked if she could try to gut it, with some instruction, she gutted it by herself. The only thing she couldn't do was crack the pelvic bone. (That's the way I've always done it) I told her that she could do it the other way by pulling it through, but she wanted to learn how I do it.

So, here's a pic of my pride and joy!

Speaking as a Dad with a 15 year old daughter who hunted with me this past weekend...you're the Dad!  What a great string of posts!  This gets me a little choked up!  Nothing better than spending time in the deer stand/woods with the kids...NOTHING!  Congrats form the Only$250's!

Everytime I open this thread up and read it I see the title Can I sit by myself ? What a great title! having had kids I think everyone can hear there or son or daughter saying that line. Having it being said in regards to hunting it just makes it so fitting...

I still can't decide who Im happier for -- her  :queen:  for wanting to sit on her own and getting her first deer    or      you  :king:  for raising such a great kid

Well she must have learned it from somewhere.

Congrats to both of you.   :happy1:

Hunter, Where is her blaze vest? Or maybe you guys were home when the photo was taken. Regardless it is still deer season. I know; devils advocate but I would hate to see anything bad happen because a guy was tresspassing and saw a deer through the brush like that drunk and high turkey poacher Klaseus. It is great that she got a deer on her own. But there is usually a reason why someone wants to hunt alone. I will watch for the posts ripping me for this.Congrats to Dad and Daughter both.

I'm sitting here, reading this over and over........Trying to figure out, why on earth, the reason for this post.

Yes, Ken we are on our property.
She took off the jacket for the picture, she also stayed in the stand till I got there.
I was taking the picture wearing my blaze orange.
If you would have read the whole post, the reason she wanted to hunt by herself was stated.
And it ain't turkey season.... :rotflmao:

nothing against having taken off her jacket, but to clarify the law states minimums for blaze orange is visible portion of a cap and outer clothing above waist excluding sleeves and gloves. blaze orange is defined as camo patter at least 50% blaze orange per sq foot. none the less, i take my orange off and most of my outer clothing to gut out deer and take pictures.
my wife said it.... im OFFICIALLY ADDICTED to MNO!!

I want to thank you all for the kind words.

I am REALLY proud of her!
She was kinda leary at first to hunt by herself, but I'm glad she tried. I think she was more excited this time then when she got her first deer with me. Mainly, I think, cause she did it on her own. I think your right Doug, she has become independent, and our bond has grown.

I got other reasons to be proud of her too, she's real smart!....2nd year of college and hasn't finished high school yet!

(I only gots me a 2nd grade edumacation)   :rotflmao:

Well, anyway, I wanted to say Thank-You...............

Dang HD, your really jerkin on tears with this one. That is outstanding, and she got a deer. A buck nonetheless. I myself have a 9 mon. old son and one due in march. I will be real proud of myself if i have a story of my own like this someday.
