I'm still hunting, will be till season is over.
Moved stands by the heaviest used trails, but still only seeing deer just before dark.
My property backs up to a 1000 acre swamp, and they are mighty cozey in there during the day.
Mostly a willow swamp, with high grass...tough to see um in there to stalk, but, fun none the less.

I'll be out until the last day of the season!  :cold:

I moved a stand last week and I think I am going to have some great success to finish the season.

Here is a map of the area and where I am hunting. The green represents where the deer bed, the purple represents the heaviest used trails since the first snow and the red x marks my stand. The area is much more grown up since this areial view but they still follow that last line of pines and brush and enter that field every night.

Here is a picture of my cousin scott (member bowhunter73 on MNO) hanging my stand. That is his specialty. If you need deer stands hung just give him a call and you too can take pictures of him while he is doing all the work. ;)

And here are a few random shots of the area...trail leading through the area where I have hung the stand. It is a hard spot to hunt as I have will end up being right on top of them. I have trails intersecting at about 20 yds and then it leads right to me.  I tried this spot with a ground blind but I do not like hunting out of ground blinds at all so I decided to go with the stand.

I have to find a cousin like that!   ;)

It will be a tough being right on top of them like that Tim, but keeping still you should have a great chance at slamming a late season deer judging by the pictures and the trails!

You better be at full draw at 50+ yards by the time they come in or one of the old does will pick you out, and you'll have to resort to shooting a yearling like I did.

I hear ya there. I would of liked to set up farther out but that line is so thick and there is nowhere really unless I seriously trim like 3 trees.

The good thing is that through the brush and trees I can see them coming. If they are coming my way they will have to pass through an area I have cleared at 20 yds. If something happens and they get through that area without me getting a shot off and they are still heading my way then the next shot is almost right below me.

We'll see. I'm letting the area sit for another week and will head out next week. Hopefully I will be back then with pics and a story!!

I've got two great bedding area stands I checked out last weekend. One is out in the boondocks, and real hard to get to without causing a ruckus with all of the crunchy snow. The other is right behind my uncle's house and they aren't as spooky due to the constant feeding in their garden and apple tree (don't worry, my stand isn't in their second level walkout deck that overlooks their garden, but don't think I haven't thought about it) :rotflmao:.

I can only sit in it with perfect wind and it's within 100 yards of my uncle's house. I think they feel secure bedding there so close to his house, and within a hundred yards of the county road. After looking at the bed's within 40 yards of my stand, I will be right on top of them and judging by the tracks and the amount of beds, it's about 6-8 deer (sets of eyes) I will deal with. I can't get them in-between the food and the beds 'cause of property lines. So what I am trying to say is I will be on top of them too, hopefully to harvest a mature doe this time or even a stray buck that wanders into the doe pack.

Good luck!

I am hoping to get out a few more times yet. Work and family keep getting in the way. I am not seeing the deer highways I saw last year in my area so patience wears thin when it is cold.
I am still hoping to get a deer for the freezer though this would be my first time in 7 years without. No more passing thats for sure.

Black -ice, that buck looks like he is pregnant. I think you should let him live so you can watch him all winter. ;D

I plan to get out a few times yet this year.  However, being I've had a great year so far, I don't think I will be going out unless the weather improves.   :rotflmao:
It's gets harder to head out as the season winds down.  Now with the extra snow, grouse hunting may also be more difficult.  I lost an arrow shooting at one last Saturday.
