Exactly.  Out of sight, out of mind.

My wife doesn't tell me the Target credit card balance and I don't tell her about how much hunting gear, dekes, guns, etc. I have.

same way with my gear.  She doesn't tell me how much she spent at her favorite store, and I don't tell her how much I spent at The Men's Mall (Fleet Farm), Gander Mountain, or Sportsman's Warehouse.  I am fortunate to have a room dedicated to nothing but my hunting/fishing gear.   :whistling:
walleyes, pannies, esox, cats, I don't care, let's go fishing!!

I've got one of those rooms too. I call it "the garage".... ;D I even have a remote facility too. I call that one "Mom's garage". Oh yeah, then there's "the shed", and "the attic". All of which are damn near brimmed with toys and gear.

I wish you free lancers the best of luck. Getting permission to set up on private Ag land can be very tough and they almost NEVER land on public land. I don't waste my time on decoying...because where they landed this morning, they most of the time are not there that evening or the next day. Most of the time, they have been shot at so many times..hunted for near 6 months. They land and only stay from a few Min. to maybe a hour on the long side. Spend all the money you want on decoys and e-callers....the guides have all the best spots sealed up and you will find yourself pass shooting or if your lucky to find a land owner and he/she gives you permission, and you get a sneak on them before they have took flight and are gone. You should consider yourself very lucky. I have been in the Dakotas many times and own a place out there.

My advise, get yourself a plot book from the county seat your hunting. Then you can look up a landowner where birds are, give a jingle on the cell and hope he/she will let you jump them. Big time saver. STAY LEGAL!!! Trespassing..run & gun wrecks it for everybody and it happens a lot. You may find, Mn Lic. plates will not be warmly welcomed in hard hunted areas. I seen way too many run & gunners, some shot right from the blacktop out of the window of the car/truck. Then run and pick them up and booked.

No matter what, just use your head and don't let the site of 1000s of birds feeding, let you make a poor decission..it's very tempting for many

 Have a great hunt

pass shooting is fun, but there is nothing like a tornado of a thousand birds over you.. thats what snow goose hunting is all about. i know how it is out in the dakotas..i live here. north dakota is alot easier to hunt because you dont need permision to hunt land. if there arent any posted signs your good to go.

Legal; or not, IMO...it's not respectful to just go on someone's private property and shoot game

I will get my permission first. Then all involved will be much happier and a better day will be hand

I spent a week hunting in NODAK last fall. Where I was land was VERY plentiful. At least every other plot in this county was Private Land Open To Spotsman (PLOTS). It also helped that we know a farmer out there who owns thousands of acres. Even more helpfull was this guy scouted the week before we went, and landed permision for us to hunt damn near the whole county so we could get right on them. The first morning we hunted the geese went down in the field adjacent to our spread, maybe 100 yards away. Our group didn't dare shoot because we didn't want to jeporadize that sight. Literally THOUSANDS of geese caught in a vortex. It was the first time I had ever seen them "stunting". That morning alone made the whole trip worth it, and I didn't even fire my gun.

alot of the farmers  out here get annoyed by people always coming to ask permission, they know the laws and hate geese....so if they dont want you there shooting them they will have their land posted. iv been told quite a few times to stop wasting peoples time when i was out scouting.

South Dakota is verry diffrent though. you need to ask permission with anything you do there because of the minnesota like laws.

Cody,I'll keep you in mind,we're heading to MO once the migration kicks into high gear, couple weeks maybe, then we'll follow them into the Dakota's.With all the snow up there this winter I suspect we'll see alot of "sheet water" this spring, meaning the geese will roost in the fields as they migrate which can make it more challenging.

Same here. I have talked to a lot of farmers who were like, 'If I wanted to talk to you I would have posted it.'

She doesn't like the garage, so she "gave it to me."  I told her that she could have all the closet space she wanted in the master bedroom if I could have the spare bedroom for my hunting/fishing gear.  The door is always closed so the kid doesn't get into things he shouldn't and so she can't see any new toys............

Personally I found access alot easier in the spring, not nearly the hunting pressure we see in the fall, some farmers just like to know who's out there,so don't let the "posted" sign stop ya.Alot of times folks in rual areas will list their cell phone #  for hunters to inquire.Southern states I found access to be very easy,MO,KA and NE,no problem's except if the roads are muddy or the fields are soft,to soft to drive in so on occassion you'll have to pack in with a bag or two of socks and your blind.
