When did they eliminate the plug rule for early goose???      I have never heard of this.  Regular waterfowl season is a must but I wouldn't rely on what we discuss on a blog site.  Call your county DNR CO and get a ruling before you get a citation.

And Cody, thanks for the complement but you and Thunderpout were damn near lights out in my book... I didn't even get over 50.... embarrassing......

The early goose season plug issue was in our 2008 " waterfowl supplement" waiting for our 2009 issue to see  if its the same,I read today that the general season regs are out,new this season (60 days) diver hunters can take 2 bills throughout the season and also 1 can and two redheads all season,6 duck limit.

Snow, thanks for pointing out my errors.  You are correct, I don't use lead for waterfowl, I checked my ammo box.  I've been so focused on bow hunting this year I think I've forgotten most of everything else I know.

I still stand by bringing them in though.  Beyond the whole sky blasting discussion, I'm an interactive hunter.  I'd rather be sweet-talking the birds into the pocket then trying to let my shotgun do the talking.

ya last i knew the plug was still required but they were discussing it, just like they were trying to change the whole you cant be certain amount of feet by water in the metro area and hunt geese during the early season.

red dont worry i barely got over 50 for my first time on sporting clays, now im shooting close to 80. got a 80 last time i was out but pout always beats me lol my goal is to beat him this year atleast once.

i agree with Quak again, i would rather take 20 yard shots at ducks than 40-50 yard prayer shots is what i call them. all though im guilty of skybusting a few times but ill only do it if im the only one on the marsh. easy to tell that cause only 5 people have access to the marsh so its nice.

Plugs will be required this year. Last year it was a mistake in the regs.  :sorry:
Where I'm from calling, flagging and decoying are just basic skills and the kids will do a little guiding just to pay off some bills.

Anybody got room for a goose/duck hunter who sucks at calling geese and doesn't have a field to hunt em in? If so let me know. South Metro and maybe West...

DHunter, you can make the trip to SWMN and hunt with me, I'll be a man down this year as one of my buddies joined the marines.

Counting down the days as well...  Might not get out that first weekend on the 5th, grandma and grandpa want to see the kids and that's okay by me.  We will make it out and hopefully have pictures to share.  Good luck and "shoot 'em low or let 'em go"....

Lately, there has been closer to 200 in the field at night.

I got 3 kids lined up to hunt and 2 adults.....should be a GREAT time. (If they stick around on Saturday)

No real plan of attack...got some blinds set up...throw some decoys out and wait.....

Since I have gone to work this week, I have seen tons of flocks between 630 and 730 AM.  Geese are looking good and a few have been really big and fat.

Good Luck Tomorrow!!!!!!!!!

well i wasnt able to get out saturday morning because of work, but from what i heard from a guy i work with who did get out, he only seen one small flock of 12 that werent honking and ignored him all together, couple other guys that came into the club that had been out that morning also reported the same thing with not seeing very many geese at all. i went out saturday evening but the evening isnt very good, i only seen one lone goose that was flying high and fast and ignored me. with the amount of doves that were flying over me i decided to just switch to 7 shot and start blasting at the doves, i got 7 but i miss marked one and lost it. this morning was different however i still havent gotten the chance to hunt in the morning but the same guy came in with his limit by 8am and i seen alot more geese flying around, ill be going out in the morning for the first time tommorow.

how did everyone else do?

We got a big fat goose...... egg! None this morning - going back out @ 3:30 - had to choose between 2 fields and wouldn't you know - we picked the wrong one. The nice this is that nobody picked the good one so we are going to give it the old college try this evening. Is anyone hunting around St. Cloud? - I have gotten about a half-dozen reports and they all stink. Just not that many birds around as far as I see. It would be nice to at least have the opportunity do screw up!

We blanked in my area as well, never pulled the trigger, satuday morning was a beautiful sunrise and the birds found a freshly cut sweetcorn field, sunday was the same and the skeeters were awful.

went out saturday morning to an oat field and got 6 out of the first flock and then pulled out so we could get more people together for next weekend and realy put the hurtin on em. the one flock came in and landed right in front of us and they wouldnt fly so my buddy had to get out of his blind and stand up before they jumped up and we both went 3 for 3. right after we pulled out of the field 20 or 30 sat down and more fallowed. hopefully next weekend they will still be there when we have 4 or 5 guys.

hunted the water today for the first time this season and it provided a little better action. but i was off my game this morning. had one big one this morning come over and we just pass shot at it and missed, 2 guys 6 shells total=0 birds isnt a good start. seen lots of geese but nothing close then we had to pack it in early and as soon as we got the first decoy in the boat 4 came over the tree tops and came for the decoys and seen us and turned the other way. half way picking up the decoys another 3 came back over the trees and i pulled out the shotgun and we paddled fast back to the bog,. and i called them in, they werent going to land so we pass shot them and still no birds, i hit the one pretty hard and have no idea how he didnt come down, but they just kept on going. the day ends with a broken cell phone because i filled my waders with water. so all in all not a good day
