I had a recent discussion with some buddies, about what gun they like to use during the firearm deer season. (Course there was beer drinking involved)

One likes to use his old russian.
One likes to use his .308
And one, likes to use a shot gun with slugs...even though we hunt in a rifle zone.
I like to hunt with either my old lever action 30-30 or my .357 magnum Colt pistol.
And my daughter, loves her .270

What do you guy's and gals prefer to use?   :fudd:

Savage 243 loaded with the Barnes X bullet.   Love it for deer.  Deadly acurate, easy to carry, with a lite recoil.  Longest I've ever had a deer go after being hit was 10 yards.
Anything that is free is worth saving up for.

I mostly use a vintage Rem .270.  I guess it just feels right to me.  Other than the ones taken with a bow, all the deer I killed were taken with the same gun.  It's not very usefull when walking through the woods (has a 3X9 scope), so it's normally hanging on my shoulder when going to and from stands.  If I jump a deer, I just freeze and bleat to see if it stops, if it doesn't I just watch it hop away.

I still use my good old Model 7 6MM.  My dad bought it for me when I was 12!!!  One of these days I might have to splurge and get me a little larger rifle.........I have been thinking a .270 might be good.

I have to go with something my dad also has because he reloads everything for me!!!  Its very nice, I put the empties on his desk at work and a few weeks later it shows back up filled :happy1:  I am very spoiled!! :dancinred:

I use my Remington Model 700 in 300 Ultra Mag.  I haven't had to shoot any long shots, over 150 yards, but it is very capable.  The best thing about the gun is that it puts things down with authority all the deer I have taken have only gone down.

It depends on where i'm sitting. If i'm in the woods its the Rem 700 in 30-06 loaded with speer 200 grn soft points. Its the gun I got for my 12th bday so I always feel a little off if something doesn't get knocked down with it each year.  :fudd: If i'm over a swamp or field its the Ruger in 7mm mag. I also like to bring my Ruger .308 every once in a while.

Remington 760 pump in .30-06 and wide view 3-9x scope. Great gun for fast follow up if you need it or for multipul deer. I gun hunt in central wisconsin in the thick woods and brush and a lot of people drive deer. so a good amount of close shots and some long shots over the swamps so it is nice to have the 30-06 when you need it.... The three guns I see the most in that part of wisconsin are the remington 760/7600 pump, the remington 7400 semi-auto, and the good old winchester or marlin lever action in .30-30, or 35 reminton.

My good old Remington 870 Wingmaster with a rifled slug barrel.  Might try a Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 mag with scope this year.

Remington Classic in .35 Whelen with a 3X9 Leupold VXII scope.  I would much prefer a 2X7 scope, but I hate to change anything on this setup, it just shoots dang good.

For a handgun, it is a Freedom Arms in 454 Casull with a Leupold 2X scope.

It's my new set-up.... a  Marlin 1895G 45-70 guide gun... spent the week tweekin it by putting different sights on it, a really nice ghost ring "peep" type, and also stuck an oversize lever on it so you can use it well with gloves on.  Oh yeah... had a decelerator recoil pad put on it... needed that when sighting it in this weekend! ;)  Man is it sweet :dancinred:  cant wait for the opener! :happybounce:... I also have the S&W 44 power port in the shoulder holster for a "back up"......

Before this year 70% of our group used one of the Remington pumps (model 6,760,or 7600) in 30.06 or .270. This year my brother and I both sold ours. I built a model 700 in 270wsm and he just bought a Savage 16 in 7mm-08. Both great shooting rifles and lightweight. I would love to have a Marlin 336 in 30.30 and a 1895G in 45.70 for some back to basics deer guns.

For me it's either the Winchester Mod-70 Featherweight in .270 or the Rem-7400 in .30-06 and for the wife she shoots a Winchester Mod-70 SS in .243WSSM.  For my dad the past couple of years has moved to the Rem-870 Pump 20ga. with rifled barrel and scope, says he likes it real well and puts deer down with it every year so far. :fudd:

Savage Model 110 Bolt Action 30.06.  First rifle I ever bought.  Light to carry, shoots straight (It's the person shooting it you need to worry about.

Hope to pass it down to my son or daughter one day and then, I buy a new one to maybe one day pass down to a grandchild......
Take a kid hunting and fishing... It'll be the best thing for generations to come.

I shoot a Remington 7400 in 308 when i hunt rifle zone or I have a 870 20 gauge with rifled barrel and scope for the shotgun zone. 1 more year and the 20 can go to my 9 year old and I can get the 12 I really wanted!

In my normal south central MN slug area I prefer my trusty Remington 870 12 ga. w/ 20" slug barrel, magnum receiver (2 3/4" or 3" shells) and Bushnell Banner Shotgun Scope 1.5-4.5X 32. It has never let me down in 18+ years of whitetail hunting.
