ok, I know I can only take two deer in this management area I hunt in. now that I have taken a doe, using my bonus tag, it got me thinking, what if I tagged another doe in this management area with my archery tag?
now I know I may not take more than two deer in a management area this year, but could I go to an intensive harvest area, using my rifle, or even my muzzle loader during the ML season and tag a legal buck with either of those licenses, noting the states rule that no more than one buck may be taken by any means?

the other twist I would add, would be if I harvested the doe in the intensive area with my archery tag, not bonus tag, could I then having only taken one deer in a management area, take a buck with my rifle or muzzle loader during their respective seasons with the rifle of muzzle loader tag?

I plan on researching this, but I thought it would be interesting to get some input here.

i believe the answer to both situations you presented would be YES, as I inquired to a friend at the DNR last year with a somewhat similar hypothetical question when I was looking to hunt both a Lottery area and an Intensive Harvest area during the firearms season.

I'll stay tuned to see what you find out...

Yep, Dave....
You got it right.

Or if you want to shoot a doe in the intensive harvest area with your bow, you could just pick up the intensive harvest tag. That way it leaves your archery tag open for that big buck if you don't get one with the rifle......

here it is, a quick response from the DNR:

"You can take a doe with a bonus tag and fill your archery tag with a doe or a buck in the managed area, then you've filled your 2 deer quota for managed areas. Or you can take the second deer in a managed area with either your firearm or muzzle loader license if you have not taken a second deer with archery.
To fill additional tags, a person would have to hunt an intensive area for either another doe, or a buck if you haven't taken a buck yet anywhere else. One buck per person per year, one deer in lottery areas, either sex with archery, buck only with firearm or muzzle loader unless drawn for a doe permit. 2 deer in managed areas, either sex with any weapon. Up to 5 in intensive areas, either sex with any weapon. Total of 5 deer in any combination of areas, only one can be a buck.
Hope this helps."

man this is gonna be fun!

just to clarify, your question and answer dont seem to match up well.

way i always knew was that once you fill your regular archery tag (doe or buck) you cannot purchase a ML or firearms license. so if you filled 1 bonus tag and regular tag in a managed area the only way to get more tags is with additional bonus tags for an intensive area. that you cannot get another buck tag.

your answer is correct but does not state weather you can purchase a regular ML or firearms tag after filling your regular archery license. ive allways been told no, unless they changed it.

i would call again and phrase your question as this. "if you fill your regular archery license with a doe, can you purchase a legal buck tag for firearms or ML?"
my wife said it.... im OFFICIALLY ADDICTED to MNO!!

well, I guess I have the answer I needed, AND I have my archery license AND my rifle license AND I'm going to buy my muzzle loader license.

my question to the DNR was as clear as I could make it.
his answer though not directly answering my question,, did answer it directly enough on the second paragraph, for me.

rephrase it any how you want and ask them yourself, I'm good.
