this deer came from a neighboring property across this meadow in front of you, he is about 75 yards infront of you. do you take the shot while he is running or do you try to get him to stop?

I would whistle or loudly grunt to see if he would stop.

He looks like he is hauling ass!  I would let him keep running and hope he would stop in front of someone else in my hunting party.

I am not saying I haven't taken shots at running deer in my past.  I was young and liked to waste ammo back then.  I don't want to risk hitting a deer with a bad shot and not finding them.  I have matured as a hunter.

The thing that would keep me from shooting is I am on the same level as the deer and the stray bullets (there would be some) will fly into the woods behind him.  If I were in an elevated positon........

If I were to stop him I would shoot.

If I couldn't stop him I would pass.

I'd get the scope on him and try to stop him with a dog bark.  If he didn't stop I would stay on him and hope that he would stop like most deer do once they get inside the trees.

Where I hunt it's shotgun only.  Also, there are no other hunters in the area so that wouldn't be an issue for me.  From that picture I'd say that buck was spooked and it would be very unlikely you'd be able to stop him with any kind of noise.  Probably speed up if anything.  75 yds isn't that long of a shot.  I'd take the shot and would knock him down. :happy1:

Id attempt to stop him if not id pass, unless maybe if I had an open sight.  Running shots are hard just to get them into the scope.

I am not that good of a shooter to pot at a running deer like that regardless of how big he is. If the animal does not slow enough to offer a clean sure kill shot he gets a free pass. It really sucks for me to see deer that have been wounded by an over zealous slob. Deer are absolutely astounding at eluding someone hunting them after sustaining an incredible injury. No one can convince me that they can survey the background that fast to insure there are no friendly targets to harm.

Nope, not picky....just selective.

It's all a part of QDM (at least our verson)
Already got a 150 class on the wall, so, I'm looking for a non-typical or a 160

plus, it's a young deer....

75 yards is not a long shot in my book and I am elevated. If I had time to get set up I would drop him in his tracks. If I missed or wounded him... Aw who am I kidding - I would drop him. If your not comfortable - don't shoot. I'm comfortable.
