Just wondering what changes people would like to see in Hunitng and fishing ruLes in Minnesota. What do you think is silly, needless or lacking. One thing I would like to see change is the right for people to come observe hunting take place with out a licence. It would be fine with me if they were allowed to help kick up game, as long as they weren't shooting, I mean your dog doesn't need a licence to help you hunt. it is hard to get people into hunting if you can't bring them out to watch, and many just don't want to pay when they are unsure about the whole process. So what would you like to see change in MN? I'm sure everyone has something.

I supposed I should have read the rules, I had my GF come with me this year and sit in the stand with me, WOOPS!  That is something I would like to see changed then too, cause thats just silly.  Its just wilderness watching, if you can go out in the woods anyother day and sit in a tree w/o a gun, why not during hunting season.
Now for fishing, I think the DNR should do better limits numbers, it would be very hard to do for each lake, but it would be very nice.  For example, down here on Lake Winona, about 3-4 years ago a persona could go out and catch a nice mess of crappies, all nice size and make a day out of it.  Now, from over fishing, the crappies are few and far between and the size isnt there anymoe.  Its been overfished by everyone.  So for example, make the lmiit 6 instead of 10, IDK, just bothers me how over fishing has caused the population to take a big tumble.
Thats all I have for now, I think mostly the laws are good and the DNR does a pretty good job with what they are given.  If something is cut with funding, its usually the DNR first.

I would ask that they re-evaluate the slot size every year on all lakes, not just Mille Lacs.

One thing I would change is how wordy the rules get.  Trying to interpret and understand what some of them are trying to say is a challenge.  Keep it simple and right to the point.

I would lower the ceiling for fishing license requirement from age 90 down to 80.

I would change the resident combination sports license so both people can fish and hunt.

Set up some kind of law and sting process to catch people breaking into perm fish houses.

I would make all the fishing slots laws valid in the whole state on all waters, so you don't have to study up for 2-days every time you go fish new lake or new area. (One slot for each species of fish) valid on all waters.

I would also quite chaning all the hunting regs every year (its getting almost to the point a person needs to hire an attorney to go over them with you each year?)

One more thing, pass tougher laws and sentences/fines on law breakers (hint, hint, hint, the deer BAITERS "so called hunters" are not affraid of the DNR and it's Laws)

I like the idea of slots and reevaluating every year. I also think we should be allowed 2 lines in the summer and 3 in the winter.

I would change the fines and punishment for shooting a Wolf down to $5 and a slap on the wrist...or pat on the back depending on the DNR officer you deal with.

Slot limits I agree with too A LOT.

Increase the limit on geese.

I agree with the General about coyote regs and should loosen them on Coon too. (save our game birds)

Spring Bear hunts would be nice or a earlier season like in August so we don't compete with the natural food boom that happens in Sept.

Let the small bucks walk. Don't assume the neighbors will shoot them if you don't. If you shoot him what chance does that buck have to grow......ZERO!

Change the expires date on Res Combination Sport license so both hunting and fishing license stop on the same day. Now hunting expires February 28 and fishing expires April 30th. Just does not make any sence, one license two expires dates.

Ditto on Big E's takes.... I also have a big gripe how the DNR has loosened the ATV road "hunting" laws with hunting grouse... :banghead:  you basically can shoot grouse off of a running ATV now! :doah: I hate lazy hunters, (especially grouse hunters)  and even worse, polititians that make it easier for the lazy :censored: hunters to hunt that way! :bs: :banghead:

I'm pretty sure the purpose of having an offseason for them is so you don't screw up spawning by stressing out the fish.  That being said, Tiger Muskie can't spawn.  Therefore their date should at least be moved up to the same date as Northern and Wallye.

Mainly simplify the regulations for both hunting/fishing as best as possible. I am going to guess that the rules have all been in place for the people whom take advantage of the "grey areas" of the rulebook when they know they are in the wrong.

Slots of different variance are acceptable for different bodies of water for general conservation, but like another poster said they are borderline ridiculous as they are pretty hard to distinguish without that feeling in your gut that you are doing something wrong.

Also, train the goofballs in St. Paul that I occasionally call/e-mail about regulations. Seem like they all have different ideas of what the book reads compared to the CO's that you see in the field.

i would like changed taking someone hunting. are they really helping you "take" game? this was changed a bit with the apprentice hunter which i think is a good idea. but they still have to jump through some hoops. also to add, i have someone close that has a felony from DWI's  :bonk: and i cant even take him to just watch and enjoy the outdoors which he loves.

i think the DNR would try to do all of this but lawyers make writing laws hard and they have to figure out the loopholes people will always try and find. another problem is funding, they just cant have enough CO's to enforce and other staff to make these things happen. and there is no amount that would ever suffice as there is so much waste in any government agency.
my wife said it.... im OFFICIALLY ADDICTED to MNO!!
