Hayes Lake and Old Mill state parks to offer seasonal and monthly camping again in 2010

Following the successful debut of monthly and seasonal camping at Hayes Lake State Park and Old Mill State Park in northwestern Minnesota last year, both parks will offer these opportunities again in 2010.

Monthly and seasonal camping opportunities came about in response to requests from frequent overnight park visitors who wanted to avoid having to haul their camping units back and forth from home to the park, make numerous reservations, or worry about availability. Feedback after the first summer of monthly and seasonal camping was very positive, so several campsites will continue to be available for extended stays.

Hayes Lake State Park will offer monthly or seasonal camping in a total of nine campsites, all of which include electric hook-ups. The monthly rate is $200 in May and $250 for June, July or August. Seasonal sites can be rented from May 7 to Sept. 5 at a rate of $700. Those interested in reserving a monthly or seasonal campsite should call the park at 218-425-7504.

Old Mill State Park will offer monthly or seasonal camping in a total of five campsites, all of which offer electric and water hook-ups. The $200 monthly rate is only available for June, July or August. Seasonal sites can be rented from May 28 to Sept. 5 at a rate of $500. Those interested in reserving a monthly or seasonal campsite should call Lake Bronson State Park, which manages reservations for Old Mill State Park, at 218-754-2200.

All reservations for monthly or seasonal campsites must be made before April 1. If demand exceeds availability, a lottery will be conducted on April 1, and the park will notify applicants whether or not they were selected. If sites are available after this date, they will be administered on a first-come, first-served basis. No preference will be given to monthly or seasonal campers from 2009.

For monthly campsite reservations, the entire monthly fee is due by April 16. For seasonal campsite reservations, a one-month down payment is due by April 16, and the remainder of the seasonal fee is due when visitors arrive to check-in. If a lottery is not necessary and sites are available after April 1, the monthly fee must be paid at the time of reservation to hold the site.

Seasonal and monthly camping will also be available at Lac qui Parle, Myre-Big Island, and Upper Sioux Agency state parks in southern Minnesota. For more information, call the parks.
