Cigar question?

Anybody know anything about storing and keeping cigars properly. I gave a company that sells cigars on line a link on my links page and now they are sending me about a half dozen fancy cigars every month. They're piling up. I rarely if ever smoke one but I'd like to keep them fresh for whoever would enjoy them. Heck maybe I'll have another kid.

Is there a way to keep them/store them without buying a fancy humidor. Or is there a way I can make a humidor myself?

You can add some to the Prize Pool 

I would just recommend, if you have them in a box, put them in a ziploc bag with a paper towel that is lightly moist.  Then put the entire bag back into the cigar box!  Put then, if you can remember, about once a month or so, leave the bag open so they can breathe.
(If they sit with no air flow and moisture for a long time, they will get moldy)  So you dont plan on smoking them for a while, just put the moist paper towel in the cigar box!

I've got no problem with putting them into the prize pool but I do want to make sure they are prize worthy on October 31. Just to clarify you are saying to put the damp paper towel inside the ziplock bag with the cigars. I'm thinking I also have a super think styrofoam container that might make a good storage place. The cigars arrived in a ziplock bag.

Correct!  And you just want the papertowl lightly damp, not soaking wet.
Or you could soak a sponge and put that in the styrofoam container (not touching the cigars) and just leave them in there.  The sponge and lid will keep the moisture from escaping and they just leave it in a cool place in your house!

As I was sitting here I began wondering, if you have one of those vaccuum pack sealers for food storage, I wonder if that would work..... because it would trap all the moisture.  Hmmmm    I MIGHT BE ONTO SOMETHING HERE!
.... I do suppose that would crush the cigars, but if they are in a box!

Actually you can go on line and buy small humidors for as little as 20.00 a better solution would be to ship them to me and I will give ya something for them. Good cigars need to be smoked! the longer you hold on to them you run the risk of the wrappers drying out and then crumbling or with to much mositure becoming to damp to smoke. I can always share some with Hunterdown.  Bobby
