Meow......

Was this a side project, or for one of those crazy cat ladies that couldnt take it when her Fluffy died - so now she has an immortal Fluffy.

I do on average, the last few years anyway, about ten pets or so including cats, dogs, and birds.
More calls every year. Many come from the east and west coast. This one was from the local Mankato area and I did a 60 lb. lab/cross for a guy from the metro last summer. I have two more kitty cats to do right now and I believe one is from SD. To each their own I guess. Pets are tough because of expression and I always tell people I can make fluffy look like a poodle, but maybe not your poodle. When people live with a pet for years it is hard to get the exact expressions of an individual pet. If they are OK with that we go ahead and do the project.

Nice mount but I have to say that is really f'd up!  I hope they are already in a relationship because how do you explain that to a date?

I love my lab and take him for a burger at the drive through at least once a week but it never even crossed my mind to have him mounted.

Did the owners have to prove it was their cat and not one they "bagged" on a hunt? :rotflmao:
Honey, what are you doing?  Nothing, just dusting the cat.  :sorry:

Why do some folks find it funny to hunt or shoot cats?  Imagine the flack one would receive if one joked about hunting and shooting dogs.

I don't find it funny......

But I live on a farm, and we have barn cats that are not your typical house cat. They are down right mean.  :taz:

So, they have to be controlled in some fashion.

That is a great service you offer there Augs. The Taxidermist I have used for a great many years refuses to do pets because the clients usually expect their animal to actually come back to life. He has been refused payment because the stuffed animal did not come when it was called. I sincerely wish youy the best of luck with future transactions.

Yes Ken,
Pets can be a challenge and many refuse to do them. However if you charge accordingly it can be a good gig. You have a little more face time with a customer than most mounts. Since most are freeze dried and not conventionally mounted I have the option to change the pose if the individual wants a change. I get 50% to pose and the other 50% before it goes into my machine. Sometimes Fido isn't as important 6 months down the road after Fido has been replaced by the new puppy or kitty. This guarantees my payment and the customer sees and understands what they will receive in the end. Works out good for all.

Dumb Question:

What if they don't want Fido back after the pose?  What do you do will a dried up animal?

Not sure I understand the question. Once posed the animal is frozen and can be thawed and reposed if need be. I get paid 50% to do this up front. If they completely abandon it at this point then they are out the 50% they paid me to pose it! Whether they come pick it up or I send it to the pet cemetery, makes no difference to me as I was paid for my time. I get the other 50% before it goes into my machine and the client has given the thumbs up on the pose. If they don't want it once it is done, again it is not a problem for me. I have been paid completely at this point. I then have an interesting door stop in my showroom I guess, as pets can't be sold/traded etc.
