Glendalough State Park hosts fly-fishing workshops June 25-26
(Released June 24, 2010)

Glendalough State Park in Battle Lake is offering two hands-on fly-fishing programs on June 25-26. Anyone age eight and up is invited to participate. A fly-tying workshop will be held Friday, June 25, 6-8 p.m. Participants can learn how to tie flies and put them to the test during the next day’s fly-fishing clinic.

A fly-fishing clinic is planned for Saturday, June 26, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Participants can learn the basics of fly fishing, practice knot tying and casting, then test their new skills on Annie Battle Lake, a unique heritage fishery that abounds with large panfish. All equipment is provided; just bring a hat, sunscreen, water and a bag lunch. A fishing license is required only if angler is not a Minnesota resident. These programs are offered in partnership with MinnAqua, which aims to connect youth to Minnesota’s waters through fishing. The programs are both free, but a state park vehicle permit ($5 for a one-day permit or $25 for a year-round permit) is required to enter Minnesota state parks. Space is limited, so call the park at 218-864-0110 to register.
