Sculptors to build giant beaver for DNR State Fair exhibit using river trash

Two sculptors are creating their interpretation of a beaver for the 2010 Adopt-a-River found-objects sculpture that will be on display at the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) exhibit during the Minnesota State Fair, which runs Aug. 26-Sept. 6 in Falcon Heights.

 
At river cleanup sites on the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers, artists Chip Addington and Caylon Hackwith repeatedly encountered evidence of beaver engineering and became inspired to commemorate these industrious creatures.

The sculpture is also a tribute to more than 80,000 volunteers who have removed 6 million pounds of trash from public waters at 3,000 cleanups over the years.
