“We have seedlings that work well for wildlife food and shelter, as well as for timber, shelterbelts and water conservation,” said Craig VanSickle, the DNR nurseries supervisor.

New for 2011 is a Bottom Land Packet containing trees suitable for river bottoms and upland sites. The nurseries also offer a wide variety of conifer and hardwood seedlings.

People may call the nursery tree order office at 800-657-3767 or stop in at a local DNR Forestry office.

A minimum order of 500 seedlings is required. Prices vary from $90 to $290, depending on the species ordered.

By law, seedlings purchased from state forest nurseries may not be planted for ornamental purposes, nor can they be resold, given away or removed with roots attached for a period of 10 years from the date of purchase. In addition, state forest nursery seedlings can only be planted in Minnesota.
