 My son James and I hunted the creek bottom on the farm where I work today. When we were hunting muzzleloader all we saw was rooster upon rooster. After pulling in the field approach and loading our guns the birds are busting everywhere out in front of us. I sent James around on the one side and my dog and me on the other. 3 minutes into the hunt a rooster flushes and I shoot and it folds and Moses retreives it to me . As we continue on James yells ROOSTER which flies directly over my head. It is a straight overhead shot which I can't shoulder the gun properly and after two shots flies away.
 We continue on and the dog is getting birdie and another rooster flushes about 70 yds. out. No shot.We keep working it and sure enough a rooster busts out and flies behind me, I shoot but not a kill shot. Moses is on it and after about a 70 yd. sprint comes back with number 2.

 We finished through to the end of the creek bottom and then hunted it back. Since James didn't have a dog on his side, I told him to get 
right down in the thick grass and work it back. Another rooster holding tight flushes, he shoots and misses. Another missed opportunity to bag his first bird.
 One more week to go. He still has a chance to get his first rooster.
