how far is to far?

as a bowhunter how far will you shoot to get that buck me personally like to keep them closer than 30 yards but 45yards is top range i would go myself how about you?

I like to keep it within 25 yards but I can go out as far as 40 yards

I normally practice at 20 -30 yards but I do have a 40 yard pin and occasionally shoot a few at that range.  It would depend on how clear the shot was.  A big buck standing broadside unobstructed at 40 yards I'm pretty sure I would let one fly.  I have never had to make that decision on a buck.  However, last Saturday I did not shoot at a doe that was broadside at 40 yards.

I'm lethal out to 40. Any further and my comfort level is not high enough to shoot. I can get a pretty tight pattern out to 55 - 60 but I tend to shank 1 out of 5 or so.

The bigest concern on longer shots is the deer jumping the string.  I can hit the bullseye at 50 but the deer can and will move before the arrow gets there.

My max is 30 yards, I have made shots at 40, but as stated a few time before - the deer has a better chance to jump or duck the arrow.
I would prefer a 20 yard shot, well, 10 or 5 would be preferred, especially if its a huge buck, I wont want a 40 yard shot on a big swamp buck

im pretty good at 35-40 yards but as everyone has said before and i agree, to me personally i practice alot at 40 yards and im confident shooting at it, when its just the block target not a deer. i like closer shots and a few places i hunt i dont even have a shooting lane out that far. 20 yards and closer is best for me...plus isnt the point of bow hunting to get closer to the game?

yes as a bowhunter you should want them close thats what bowhunting is. The reason i thought to ask is when you watch all the hunting show on T.V. there are alot of shot around the 50 yard mark and to me that is not bowhunting at all bowhunting is suppose to be a challenge don't get me wrong i do love to hunt from a treestand but i still belive the ultimate rush comes when you do a stalk hunt and are succesfull but it's all fun and exciting that's why we all bowhunt

One reason why I am thankful that our land is in a shotgun zone (as well as hunting with a bow).... I like the intimate hunting atmosphere and taking an animal within 50 yards.  Seeing a deer 150 yards away and needing the scope of binos to see/take the deer isnt my cup of tea 
I enjoy seeing the size of the animal in front of me before i pull the trigger, its harder to see that in the scope of a 30.06

Now that I think about it I have never taken a shot on a deer at more than 25 yds. with my bow.
And agreed on the stalk style of hunting. I put the sneak on a doe I spotted laying down last Sunday. I closed the gap from about 100 yds. to about 55 only to be busted by a buck that I'm guessing was courting this doe. It was a bit of a heart breaker not to get the shot but the excitement of getting that close made up for it.

The farthest deer I ever shot with a bow was 12 yards, id feel pretty comfortable out to 20, might take a shot at 30 if it was still and broadside.  not ready for a 40 yard shot yet

I will do 40 and practice at 50 I will only do this because I have a huge back yard and can shoot there. Before I bought this place I would never have shot 40. Let’s be honest if you can’t conveniently practice at 40 there’s a real good chance you might blow the shot.
 
Big difference between having a 40yd pin and knowing how to use it. I will not shoot at 50, 60, or70, BECAUSE I don’t practice for that.

I see guys all the time with a 40 pin who never shoot at a 40yd target. Also see a lot of wounded deer

GOOD POINT, I know alot of guys that have a 20-30-40yrd pins, but dont shoot 40, but they will never put in a 10.  Personally, if I have a 10 yard shot, I want to make sure I hit the vitals with no doubt - but they will insist on looking at the 20yrd pin and going from there.

my 50 yard pin is my 10 yard pin...i have a 40 yard pin but i still wont shoot at 40

This year I have only been practicing 40 - 60 yards. Thats my routine every time I practice, Usually start with 40 and then move up. When I am done shooting I always stick one in the middle of 20 and 30 yards just to keep my confidence up at those distances. Right now I feel that I can shoot center up to 30 yards confident, 40 I could do it but I do not want to. Most of my stands i don't have a shot over 30 anyways so I am good to go.

I got one pin on my bow, set at 30.

I shoot alot, and now my bow well....I can adjust off of that one pin if needed.
Rarely do I have to shoot over 30.
