Well, after alot of long weekends of hunting, I got a nice buck  :happy1:  He came in when I would have been happy just to see any wildlife, it was raining, and windy and cold.  But I was going to pheasant hunt originally, but after I saw 4 deer run from the field around to the woods, I decided to get up in the stand.  After a little while in the stand, caught a glimpse of what I thought was a buck - but didnt know for sure, but it was alone and had his head down, moving slowly.  Anyways, he disappeared for about 30 minutes and came back and this time was walking right at my stand.  I watched him make his way for about 5 minutes (what seemed like 2 hours) and ranged where I thought he would come, 8 yards.  But he came by a little past that, probably more like 12 - but I pulled back and threw up a prayer.  Thought I hit his shoulder blade, because there was no pass through, the arrow stayed in him, but once I got to him, I saw the arrow hole above the shoulder and ended up being a heart/lung shot - he only went 50 yards.

This guy will be up on the wall next to his buddy I shot last year!  I saw alot of bucks today, 6 total, and this being the last, biggest and only I could have got a shot at.   :happy1:

Oh, and he is my first deer with a Bow.....  :woot:

It was pouring rain when I was field dressing him, so I have no pictures from the field!  Now I can finally sleep in a day - unless I decide to hunt Turkeys tomorrow!

Thanks guys - I could have sworn he could hear my heart beating, it was probably shaking the tree.   training-087

No, our trail cam was broken this year and we never got around to fixing it, so no pictures this year.  I had been seeing alot smaller bucks 4-6 pointers and figured that was all that was around - but the last day of gun season last year I saw a pretty nice 8 pointer that was too far out of range to shoot, so I knew that there was atleast 1 nice one out there this year - and I have a hunch that this is that deer from last year.
--Now depending on what happens with all those 4-6 pointers, it could be an interesting year next year with alot of mature bucks running around  :happy1:

You're going to have to post another pic or two of that slob.

I can tell by the beams and tine length it's bigger than the pictures look, and you should be truly proud of that dandy you have laying on the floor of the garage!

Nice work!

Thanks fellas!  I cant even explain many details - I was in shock from when I let the arrow fly 'til sometime yesterday!

I think we will be taking some does this year, we have 3 doe permits to fill, so those 4-6 pointers get bigger for next year  :happy1:
:deer: I dropped him off at the Taxidermist on the way home, so I never measured for a score.... not sure where to start, any estimates?  160?

Maybe those pictures are better... it was raining so we quickly snapped some shots and tried to get it out of the woods.

It's a beauty for sure and would grace any wall.  I'm not much of a judge of scoring but I don't think it will go 160.  My guess is more like mid 140's.  Then again what do I know.

I was thinking 150-160, just based on how it looked compared to last years - I figured the extra points would add a few.... you are probably right though, I might just be a little generous.  I suppose it will be a while 'til I find out - I didnt notice much about the mass of the tines or base.

MTCOMMER, you got yourself a 160" deer there!  Actually I tallied 161" based off the pictures and I was being conservative.
True beauty!  Congrats!

hahha, Im keeping you in suspense.  I dropped him off the the taxidermist on my way home so he can get a head start on him... never got a chance to measure!   :doah:
My 8.5 pointer last year had a little more mass and scored 139, so I think this guy will be atleast in the 150s.
YOU WILL ALL HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE (in April or May)
