Welp....this afternoon my son and I, met up with Icebanger and friends for a pike tourny on East Rush. With'in the first 10 minutes of putting my tip up in the hole...I had a flag....

I set the hook...the fish took a run...and pulled apart a 30 pound test leader! 
At least it felt like a good one...

There were a few folks out try'in to catch pike with the largest fish caught to win was a 36 incher.


Afterwards, me and the boy went to West Rush to see if we could catch some perch.
But, all we came up with was a bunch of smaller Crappies.......

Well with the weather like it was yesterday tip-up fishing I see was on the mind of a few.  Myself and my 2 brother inlaws decided to do the same thing.  I had a 3 or 4 pound pike up to the hole and that was it for our luck.  We were fishing some trophy lake near Alex.  The bottle bass were biting though.  WE are heading out this morning to the lake across the street were he has been catching crappies.  Can't beat this weather!

With the warmer weather, me and "the boy" decided to hit a favorite gill spot. And man, were they on a bite! We fished in 12 feet of water just above a weed bed, and did well! He was using one of DDS's jigs, and I was using a white tear drop(white glow with a green dot) tipped with wax worms. We even caught a few bass in between the gills!

This weekend was tuff...

With the wind and the melt down it made the ice tricky to walk.
We started out yesterday to go fish for some perch. I had picked up a new noodle pole for the boy, and he was chomping at the bit to use it. He had it all rigged up with one of DDS's jigs. He sat in the truck as I searched for fish...when I got 2 on the ice, he headed out of the truck to one of the holes I drilled. Next thing ya know...he was on his keester laying next to the hole in water. So, that trip was cut short to head back home for dry pants and shirt....and ice cleats. 
Don't worry the boy is fine, and he has a new set of cleats of his very own. 

If you do head out...REMEMBER THE CLEATS !!!!

Anyway...today I went out solo and cuaght a few gills for dinner. Still windy as all get out, and the ice still slick. But, I did remember my cleats this time.

It was a GREAT afternoon on the ice!

After the morning of having to run to town, I decided to hit the ice for some "catch and release"
I had some pan fish defrosting in the sink, so, I wasn't planning on keeping any. I drove to a local lake in search of some gills and what ever else I could catch. I chose a spot, in 12 feet of water just above some cabage and curly leaf. The gills were hiding in the weeds, and as you jigged just above the weeds...they would come out and smack your bait! Fishing for a few hours, I iced some nice gills and larger perch. When I decided to leave, I past by a familiar face, and stopped. It was MT (Micheal Thompson) and chatted for a bit. Jack and himself were fishing a hundered yards away (or so) Mt wasn't catching much when I stopped, but he did show me a picture of a nice pike he had caught earlier on 2 pound test. Very nice fish!

Whitefish Bay, Lake of the Woods. My first time fishing Lake Trout through the ice. Fishing in about 45 - 50 feet of water. Most caught on 4" tubes. Fish ranged in size from about 5 lbs. to probably 8 lbs. It was cold up there which made it hard to move around.

      Nice job Fawk  . What color tubes were you using?  I'm guessing white or some light color.  I have my tube mold coming and I am interested in popular colors for Lake of the Woods.

Your are correct - white of light color. I got all of mine on a white glow tube (has kind of a greenish cast to it). We also bought some tubes that were white with a big red nose - looked exactly like a badmitton birdie (or shuttlecock) and they also produced fish. A spoon about 4-5 inches in length also produced.
