Learn to cross-country ski at Glendalough State Park on Jan. 22
(Released January 20, 2011)

Cross-country skiing lessons are being offered at Glendalough State Park on Saturday, Jan. 22. Participants will meet at the Trail Center at 10 a.m. and join the naturalist on a 1.5-mile loop around the Beaver Pond Trail.

To register and for more information, call 218-864-0110.

A limited amount of free rental equipment is available. Participants who register ahead will be fitted first. Anyone who wants to explore further on their own after the lessons can rent skis, boots, and poles for the standard package price of $10/day.

Although the lessons are free, a Minnesota State Parks vehicle permit is required to enter the park ($5 for a one-day permit or $25 for a year-round permit that provides unlimited access to all 74 Minnesota state parks and recreation areas). A Minnesota Ski Pass is also required for skiers age 16 and older. Both the vehicle permit and the ski pass ($6 for a one-day pass) can be purchased at the park office.

To get to Glendalough State Park from the town of Battle Lake, go 1.5 miles north on State Highway 78, then 1.8 miles east on Otter Tail County Highway 16 to the park entrance.
