Lets start a picture thread with our 2011 turkeys. Here is my MN bird. Taken Thursday 2nd season. 24.2lbs, 9.5" beard and 3/4" spurs.

Congats OJ! We are leaving tomorrow to come hunt the Hills. Lots of snow up around Deerfield I here so we will be hunting down around Custer I am guessing. Come down and see us some night.

Well, mine's not dead yet but I do have a photo of him.  I went on Friday for a walk through some of my property and from a distance saw 7 turkeys about 40 yards from my camper.  I circled around and snuck up on them using my camper and an old fish house as a shield.  Hard to believe but they noticed me almost as soon as I poked my head out from behind a barrol.  They didn't seem too concerned but did slowly move off the field.  On a bright note, I could have blasted one of the two toms if I had a gun.

Well, I just got back from 3 days of hunting and all the birds out on our property are still runnin around.  It was a tough couple of days, it seemed pretty quiet everyday except the first.  The first morning when I got in the woods I heard alot of gobbling close to me and about about 30 minutes 2 nice Toms were walkin through the woods parallel to me.  I did some calling but they didnt seem interested and they just stayed on the top of the ridgeline 30-60 yards from me and between lots of trees.
After that I didnt see anything else that day until a hen can strolling in on her way to roost.  I saw alot of hens, 1 today I could have had a shot at if it was a tom.  I would see Tom's on the neighbors fields and on my way home near the roads but never on my property.  BUMMER! 

Some say its been a tough year with this weird weather, but I know others that got their bird the first day.... 

  But I will apply for the fall season and hopefully get a bird on the ground!

Here are some pics from 9 days ago, second weekend of ND's turkey season.  I use a double bull blind, decoys and call.   We had 10" of snow 2 days before the hunt.  No big toms came in but a pair of Jakes with the larger displaying to the decoy.  Called in with a box call.  Shot, at 15 yds   spurs unmeasurable, beard 3", weight 15lbs.  Tasted great!

2nd day was a bust for me...but excited to find some SE MN morels on the way out!  Gobbling has been very light, with nothing willing to come in so far. 2 gobbles total the 1st day, dozens of gobbles from the same tom today, but never getting any closer.  I moved closer and he moved further away, then quit gobbling, moved back looking for morels on the way out, and he started up again the same place as early AM. ????  If I ever figured these birds out, I suppose they wouldn't be so exciting to hunt!

I know I'm really late to the game but I just set up my blind yesterday.  Nothing like waiting for the last week.  I saw 4 toms here and another a ways off.  I sat here for an hour or two after setting it up just to get the feel of things.  I saw one other tom on the access road when I was leaving.  Maybe I'll try it tomorrow.
