Build a fishing rod event at Lake Carlos State Park on May 21
(Released May 9, 2011)

Lake Carlos State Park is hosting a one-day workshop on building fishing rods from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 21. Enhance your fishing experience by creating your own custom graphite, six-foot, medium-spinning rod. Experienced rod-builder Jeremy Schneider will guide you through all the steps to create your own rod, from inserting eyelets to attaching a cork handle.

To register for the workshop or for more information, call the park naturalist at 320-852-7200 by Friday, May 20. There is a $70 registration fee for the class, which includes rod blanks and other materials. Refreshments will be provided, but participants should bring their own lunch. Class size is limited to the first 10 registrants, ages 16 and older. Extra classes will be added as needed.

A vehicle permit ($5 for a one-day permit or $25 for a year-round permit) is required to enter the park and can be purchased at the park office.

Lake Carlos State Park is located 10 miles north of Alexandria. From State Highway 29, go two miles west on Highway 38 to reach the park entrance. The workshop will take place at the park’s visitor center.
