We have talked about it.  We couldn't figure out a way to structure it.     A lot of ice fishermen only fish pannies.  The contest could be put together but the rules of the summer challenge would not work.  If anyone has any ideas on how to structure it fire them out here.

biggest wally
biggest northern caught on rod
biggest northern caught on tip up
biggest northern speared
biggest croppie
biggest perch?
biggest fish ( not noted above)
biggest/slimiest pout
we could have these as categories and teams of 3? and have them randomly selected so teams arnt unfair. ( but if you have a relative in the contest you could be on same team by default )

fixed it for you

What if we did something like pike, walleye, crappie (maybe you get 3), Sunfish (3 more) and as an incentive to go to ... say Brazil let's throw in a peacock bass.

You are forgetting Minnesota favorite winter game fish.....Eelpout! :king:
You could have a  " Anything category"  where you could place any wierd fish you catch/spear like whitefish, dogfish, carp, sturgeon.. or Peacock bass if you go to Brazil...with longest fish winning!  :whistling:

 :snow5:
Two man teams
3 largest crappie
3 largest pan fish
Biggest walleye or sauger
Biggest northern
Biggest bass
1 yahtzee fish which can be anything that swims add all to make a total length
Winter twist would be that you enter as a two man team, keep the contest short say from mid Dec to mid Feb.  :coffee:

One member of any team may only post 2 fish out of 3 in any catagory.  Keep the ideas coming winter will be here soon. :happy1:

I kind of like that idea. What if it is the total length of each member of the team. That is to say each member scores 1 of each fish. Crappie, walleye pike. Would have to be a bit of an honor system though.

Make it so each member has to contribute. Not just one hotshot like HD.

You might keep in mind that someone has to judge all of these fish and someone has to keep score, the more rules and fish you add and combo of catching fish the more you make it a chore. If you want to have a simple ice challenge just pick teams and post your top ten fish from * to * dates. I say ten fish so you have enough room to not have a ten team tie at the top. Good luck with it.

Exactly.  I had a post that stated this fact.  It has to be simple.  My thoughts were have a minimum length for crappies.  Say 11 inches.  Each team can register 3 of them and each would be worth 1 pt.  Max 3 pts. for crappies.  Each Member can only register 2 of the 3 in each species.  Thus it would be a contest to see who could post the legal fish in each catagory.  Spearing is out for this challenge.

Good question. I wonder if I accidentally deleted it somehow. And it was a damn good post - any chance of recreating it? I am sincerely sorry if I deleted it.

hmm what you think of this

biggest wally
biggest northern
biggest croppie ( 3 per team )
biggest sunfish ( 3 per team)
biggest fish ( not noted above)

in the 3 per team category every team member has to contribute a fish

the ice fishing challenge starts when theres ice and ends march 25th
tell me what needs to be fixed or added

Honestly lentz - I love your enthusiasm but it seems a bit complicated with so many fish. We would have to send our judges to judge school - maybe we could get some major league umpires, it's their off season. I would be inclined to limit it to probably 3 species. Except I love Corny's idea of eelpout. And I like the idea of everyone on the team has to provide at least one of the fish (You know, the HD thing).

I think we are getting closer to an ice challenge.  Pike, walleye and Crappie.  3 each per team.  Max 3pts/species per team.  One member may only post 2 fish per species.  We would need to set lenght requirements to score in each species.  A legal fish scores 1 pt.   A perfect score would be 9 points.  We could add sunfish then a perfect score would be 12.  This could work.

dds Imo i think we shouldn't have point and just add up the lengths because im getting confused by the points but go into more detail about the points because it could work great

i like the 3 fish for each species per team and that only 1 person can get 2 of the fish

I think this concept will work.  I am going to try to spell it out tomorrow.  The goal will be to be to get max participation from any entrants.  Since this will be the first annual it will have to be well thought out.

One more idea.  We keep it the same as the summer with one change.  We have a panfish section that would replace the bass.  It could be a Sunfish, Crappie, or perch only.   Everything else would be the same.  We would only need to set the minimum lengths that would make them a legal fish.  I would think we could set the panfish at 8 inches.  That is a nice sunny or perch.  Definately do able for anyone.   What say you all?

I think you got it nailed DDS!

Maybe have a section for bonus points for a rare species caught through the ice ie..Lakers, Sturgeon or the fan favorite Eelpout. Just an idea, don't mean to complicate. Just in case someone is running away with it (HD) ;D :whistling:

I don't think you realize that horse hockey has noth'in to do with a game...it has more to do with what comes out of the rear of a horse.   ;)
