I'd like all your thoughts about this.

So here's the story with the background info first.  My Dad and Uncles have been hunting an area of public land for about 30 yrs.  As my cousins and I have gotten older we have all joined them.  about 5 or 6 yrs ago the land we hunt went up for lease by Potlach.  It was a 240 acre area.  We all pitched in on the lease to keep it in our family.  2 yrs ago Potlach decided to put half of it up for sale.  3 people in our party were lucky enough to be able to afford to buy it and they did.  The land they bought is hunted by everyone.  Now this year the three who bought it are telling everyone that they need to move their stands off the land so they can hunt it alone.  There is still the other half of the property that is leased that everyone can use, plus the surrounding public land.  I understand they own the property now and that is their right to do, but it feels very wrong to all of us that don't own it.  The three "owners" also still have access to the half that is leased.  I myself am pissed because I have been hunting that area since I was 12 and the past 2 years i've taken 2 decent bucks.  What do you all think of this?  Again, I know they have the right to do this but it sure feels like a crapty move, especially considering we're all family and supposedly a "hunting club".  I'd love to hear all your responses.

Sounds like a bad situation !!! 2 thoughts,, 1.  Your hunting party is growing and your hunting land is not and they are only trying to secure a spot for there kids to grow up with and to have there own memories.  2.  Really guys drop the whats mine is mine and whats yours is mine aditude and comprimise on the situation, maybe have time slots for a couple groups during the season ? It would be benificial if everyone could work together! its hard to manage the deer when you start creating boundries like that!!   Good LUck

That does sound like a crappy deal. But, they own the land and they can lay the ground rules on what goes on there. Sounds a bit selfish to me, but there is nothing that you can do about it. I would think that some kind of agreement could be made, but if they are unwilling to discuss it with the group to be fair... then I guess you are screwed.

why not approach them with a "lease" type option or someway for them to feel like they're not carrying all the financial burden on the other chunk? find out what their taxes are and have the other group of guys kick in to cover that expense for em and they can have opening weekend to themselves and then after that its open.

I like Beeker's proactive suggestion. It will also clarify the depth of the of the new owners resistance to sharing the property.

Thanks for all the input guys.  I like the idea of trying to work out some kind of agreement with them.  I'm thinking since we're all family we could come up with something, but then again who knows.  There are other areas to go to at least so it's not the end of the world.  It just feels like we're being treated like any other hunters, not like family or a hunting party.  Maybe it's a blessing in disguise, pushing us to where the big bucks are.  lol.  I'll let ya know what comes of it
