Whitefish, cisco netting dates set for area lakes
(Released October 20, 2011)

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Grand Rapids area fisheries office has announced the dates for sport netting whitefish and cisco on area lakes.

The following lakes are open Nov. 4 through Dec. 11: Bass (north basin), Ball Club, Bowstring, Little Bowstring, Cut Foot Sioux, Deer (near Effie), Grave, Jessie, Maple, Pokegama, Round (near Squaw Lake), Rush Island, Sand (near Max), Swan, Twin Lakes (near Marble), Winnibigoshish, and Little Winnibigoshish.

Winnibigoshish, Cut Foot Sioux and Little Winnie are designated infested waters because of the presence of faucet snails. Netters are reminded that if netting on infested waters, the net may not be used in other waters unless it has been dried for a minimum of 10 days or frozen for at least two days.

Several lakes are open to netting on 48 hours notice posted at public accesses and the DNR website. Opening dates are determined based on fish abundance, climatic conditions and vulnerability of game fish. Anticipated open dates are as follows: Deer (near Deer River) and Turtle, Oct. 28 through Dec. 4; Side and South Sturgeon, Nov. 4 through Dec. 11; Big Balsam and Nashwauk, Nov. 19 through Dec. 19.
