Ok boys, get your minds out of the gutter!
This is a serious question!

I recently bought some used full bodied Canada decoys from a member on here (Pegg) And, was wondering if any of you have flocked the heads on decoys. Either re-painted, or applied the flocking paint.

Does the paint last?
What kind of prep do you have to do to make the paint stick?
Where is the best place to purchase said paint?
Is there a brand of paint better than another?

The flocking kit is pretty easy to do and it does get a bit messy.  I personally would rather have flocked heads with a painted beak rather than all paint; seems a bit too glossy for my liking.

Yet, a bird coming in with the feet down is still dead meat..... whether painted, flocked, or left alone.

Thanks for the reply Red!

Yup, I was planning on leaving the beaks alone...I've painted alot of deeks in my life, just never tried the flocked paint.

The heads are a smooth, dull paint (and so are the bodies) They will mix in pretty well with my big foots. Just thought I could make um just a little better......

Make them better I say!  I need to redo a few of mine and I am contemplating flocking 20 shell heads too.

How about I send mine to you for extra practice after you perfect your technique????

Nope, I haven't even got the paint yet.
I stopped at the Gander in Blaine one day last week and they didn't have any out yet...
(least that's what the dude told me)
Maybe have to run to the one in Forest Lake...or maybe make a run to Cabella's....

I called the Gander in Forest lake today, and they ain't got none neither...must be a "seasonal" thing. Next bet it is to try Cabella's

What? Home Depot?     Moron.

You're other option is to order it online and pay the shipping.  Or if possible, do an "in-store" pick-up to save on the shipping costs.

The first "test" head is done.
What do ya think? Good? Bad? Or ugly?

The one in the back, is one I haven't done yet for comparison.

Welp, the heads are done...a little touch up on the bodies, and they will be complete.

I would have to say, that the flocking paint did not perform to my expectations.
Giving it a C+

Did it cover the heads? Yes, but it is thin
Do they look better than before? Yes
Will the geese care? Prolly not

I think you did a flocking good job :happy1:  Now if you can keep "the boy" from ground pounding the dekes you should be ok.

I have not used flocking paints.  If the paint is really thin it should work well out of an airbrush.  That would make coverage quick and easy.

It's not really a paint....you prep the surface by sanding, apply a coating of glue, then sprinkle the flocking on the head. Then you shake off the excess, and let dry.
