Question about our fishing sport maturing

Considering economics and the cost of gear, it got me to thinking about my own boat and other guys boats that I fish with. I think most of our boats are used.

I wonder what is the age of the boats you guys own who frequent this website? POST A PHOTO & DESCRIPTION if you have one.

Mine is a 1997 Lund tiller. Not old, but certainly not new. It has never occurred to me that I might want to upgrade someday.

I have a 16' Lund that I pull out of retirement in July each year. It's the perfect boat for the 3 wk. BWCA vacation. You can only run up to a 25 hp. up in the B-dub. I've got it set up with all the essential things I need to get the job done.

Electric anchor
Electronics front and rear
Electric trolling motor (head turned around for back trolling max power)
25hp EL start Johnson 3cyl. 2 stroke (3cyl pushes better than most 2cyl)
Also has recoil pull start option.
S/S prop
Built in 14 gal gas tank
carpeted
lots a storage
Pedestal seats
On board charger
Live well (don't really use it)
Automatic bilge pump
Bunk trailer w/ swing tongue

I also run a 17ft. 2004 Lund tiller 75hp Yamaha for my guiding. (no photos)

That is a luxurious boat for up in the BWCA!  Nice looking rig.

I own nothing.  :bonk:
I have been trying to figure out what the best type of boat would be for myself (once I decide to buy one).
Do I go with a newer/smaller boat, or an older one that may have more amenities but a little rough around the edges.

I look forward to seeing what everyone is puttin' around in during the summer.

My first boat.  I bought this used (I believe it's a 2005) about three years ago.    It came with all the goodies.  Has a 50hp Honda 4 stroke and 65lb auto/co pilot trolling motor.  This one just sips the gas.
***I started out with nothing, and I still have most of it.***

Sounds like you've got a lot of toys for a 20 yr old guy dew. Always interested in seeing any customized options on people's boats. One can always pick up some tips by seeing what the other guy has done.

If you get a chance to post those pictures we'd enjoy seeing um.

Who's next? Don't be shy let's see watcha got.

Unless you have a real high resolution  computer screen this will just look like a cabin.  If you look real close you may be able to make out my rig.  I call it the "Invasive Species".  It consists of a mid 80"s 19ft Sylvan Blue-Fin with a 2000 Merc. 125.  No live well, no frills.  I usually on have one seat in it.  I like the floor completely open.  The floor is rotten and needs to be replace.  I like this boat because it floats.  Especially if the little rubber thingy is put in at the access.   I had two summers of starter, voltage and electrical problems but those have been worked out.  I used to do a lot of duck hunting on Leech lake.  I could pull this up to some reeds and cover the motor and I was good to go.  No trolling motor.  The gas tank is disconnected because most of the time it sits in the water all summer at the lake of no fish.  I run 6 gallon tanks which is easier most of the time because there is no where to refuel on the lake.   Two downriggers that I don't use too often.

Both of my boats. Big one is a T-14 Alumacraft with a 15 hp Honda on it. Used in the BWCA and about everywhere else in Minnesota. I love it! Very light and easy to load and unload. The 1996 motor back trolls at 0.5 mph or less.

The small one is a 13 ft Sportspal, got a very wide transom on it. Run a 2 hp, direct drive Honda on it. The boat can get about anywhere.

I've made custom battery boxes for both of them to hold small 12 volt batteries (like in a Vexilar) to run my Lowrance Elite 7. The 15 hp Honda will actually charge it too.

Both boats were bought brand new. Got the 15 Honda from my dad when he wanted new stuff. Love both of these boats, no plan to ever

Yoo Yoo DDS,

I'd venture to say while many of us are getting soaked in the rough seas your staying high and dry in your craft. Unfortunately I don't think your going to be picking up to many chicks with that paint job. How's about a nice candy apple red w/ metal flake. Don't think the ladies would dig that rotten floor either.

Time to dig out the wallet bro and show some love to the Sylvan Blue-Fin.

Your friends,

From The Fashion Police

PS.
This was just an after thought but, you might consider painting a name on the stern. Something catchy like "DRAIN PLUG"

Here's my winter setup.
Don't have a picture of the boat but it's a 2002 Alumacraft Tournament Pro 185, dual councils, Yammy 115 4 stroke, locators, gps, etc.

Well just in time for opener I upgraded my boat.  Bought my self a 1983 alumacraft sunfisher 175.  Same year as my other boat just a little longer and a lot wider and more than twice the motor
