Yep I was fishing opener on Leech last year 4-6' of water was at Jimmy's for breakfast by 8:30 am.

Gonna miss opener second time in 25 years, heading to Puget sound in Washington to see my grandsons, coming back to the states with Daddy the Marine.  Hoping to take them out fishing for Lingcod (saltwater eelpout).

I agree with most that you should start shallow.  However don't be afraid to go deep if the shallow bite isn't there.  On Vermilion many of the Walleyes spawn on deep main lake flats and we have had some awesome openers in 25 to 30ft of water. ;)

Walleye spawning on deep flats?  That's interesting, had never heard that.  I had always heard that walleye spawned on reefs, or gravel shorelines or river mouths.

Good to know.
