I heard the tom gobbling over a hill at first light.  By 5:30 his head popped up about 150 yards away at the top of a hill.  For the next 45 minutes he closed to about 80 yards gobbling all the way.  Then a frisky deer decided to check out my decoys. Didn't seem to bother the tom much but I was getting a little hot under the collar.  I finally told the deer to "get, your in the middle of my hunt".  I though she might come to check out a talking tent but made a better decision to saunter away.  Now within 60 yards, the tom started strutting his stuff. This went on for another 10-15 minutes.  Then as if kicked in the butt, he took off on a dead run up the hill and out of sight.  Just then 4 jakes came out of the woods right where the tom was doing his thing.  I guess he didn't like the 4 on 1 odds and bolted out of there.

Later in the day I went on a morel hunt.  Spying a dead elm, I made my way there searching the ground for morels. I almost crapped my pants when a hen turkey bolted off her nest not 4 feet from me.  I had to laugh that while i'm looking for a small mushroom, I didn't see a giant bird a few feet from me.  I took a photo of the nest quite a clutch she has going there.

This is the first turkey nest I've ever seen
