I know we have talked about this in the past.
I'm a believer of gutting my deer outside of my hunting area...
BUT....I could be wrong.....

I gut it where it falls! To lighten the drag weight, dont cut above the rib cage till home.small cut to keep debrie out. I do take lots of innards,Stomach, kidneys, intestines, liver, heart. That kidney fat UMMM!! and if I can find the sweet breads them also,I have a hard time distinguishing them from fatty tishue. On a large beef,Moose, elk its easier.

I also gut them where they drop unless it's lake we may haul them to camp to gut them with better lighting.  HD did make a comment about attracting predators to your stand location which I believe may be a valid reason to not gut them there.  As Dr. Kroll points out, it has no negative effect on deer.

Me too.  Gut them where I drop them.  I have shot other deer that were smelling that gut pile.

I too gut the deer where it drops. I have shot deer out of the same stand with a gut pile. Now bear on the other hand, if we plan to continue using the bait site we will gut it away from the bait. Mainly because the less commotion the better if there are multiple bears hitting.
Hey look your bobber is up!

This is amusing.  I have on two different occasions shot deer within spitting distance of gutpiles.  One time in Pennsylvania, I shot a spiker that was sniffing the gutpile from a buck my brother shot less than two hours prior to that.  My shot was a bang flop and the deer literally fell in the gut pile.

I drop the gutpile out on the spot. Sat in my kids stand two days after he shot 160" ten point. Something just didn't look right where he gutted out his deer. All afternoon it bothered me until something moved. I had a bobcat watching me while it sat next to the gutpile. Then the iceing on the cake was just before dark two jays chased the biggest owl I have ever seen into a tree 25' away. The thing looked like a B-52 coming through the woods.

I'd bet That owl was a great gray, I had one once cruise by me in the woods deer hunting NO sound and it passed with in 10 feet,All I caught was a blur then it caught a weasel about 25--30 yards out.I stood motionless and watched a HUGE bird eat a meal. One of my best all time sites deer hunting in Minnesota!!
