I'm looking myself.  I'm still stuck in the dark ages I guess with the standard meat thermometer.  They have been good to me over the years but the down side is that you have to open the smoker or oven to check on the temp.  good luck.

I'll have to get the brand name from home, all i know is it's grey with a folding "sticker part) and a light up screen, it's about 10 bucks. it's lasted about 8 months now on one battery.

thanks reb, .instant read would be nice. my smoker has a leave in thermo. but i want to check varyimg peices so.an instant read would be nice.

I've got two of these, had 'em for years. One for the meats, and the other to check HVAC temps.
