Anybody know why HSO and FM split?

I always wondered and never really found out.  Sort of messed it up with some of the things on one and other things on the other.  I wondered if 2 different guys each wanted their own site so made a split....???

FM used to be a good spot to catch some good fishing reports. ..but you couldn't ask many questions without hurting someones feelings. So, most folks just viewed without posting.

HSO, you just can't comment there at all without getting in trouble.

Course...these are just my own opinions.....and I wish them luck. Just because they are a "competitor", we are all outdoorsman and should share information with each other.

Here is a broad outline of my end goal and a means goal and each forums purpose.

My End Goals

I want to, connect people with the outdoors and other outdoor enthusiasts, help folks develop outdoor skills and grow their outdoor related passions because everyone should have the opportunity to feel the joy and connection of our natural environment. I want to feel good about helping folks do what they love or learn to love.

1. My Means Goal: Establish cooperative groups to create, work together and implement ways that enhance our outdoor experience. These groups should improve the ability of those already in the outdoor field to increase their earnings and provide opportunity for those not in the outdoor field to get into it.

Both forums will be split almost completely other than links to the main forum or a category. They will also be reorganized for easier flow based on recommendations. This is what we will focus on and work on over the next 30 days. A Topic will be created for each forum's changes.

HSO's Purpose: To develop exclusive groups that support and help improve information sharing and personal growth within each type of outdoor related group. Those folks then support membership and visitors at large in a general way to improve to the point where they get invited to the exclusive group(s) because of their contributions in the regular forum. 

1. Develop Masterminds groups on HSO. Idea is to have 1-4 Curators per Mastermind Group who develop exclusive balanced membership among the best folks they can find to join in and submit them for addition into their group. These groups are meant for creative types, those who implement good ideas, as well as those who are experts in the field. Those of you interested in being HSO Pro staff will help us make this vision come true. We already have several top of their field curators ready to come aboard. We will be looking for more. Current forums are a good starting point for those of you interested to explore. Masterminds groups will be aligned with those forums or those we create.

FM's Purpose: This forum is meant to be what the old FM was. All about Outdoors in Minnesota and neighboring states.

1. Clean out links to HSO individual forums. Those of you who are interested in being FishingMN Pro Staff will help us make this what we want it to be based on current resources.

Ya sounds way too complicated of an agenda.  This is not a government entity it is an entertainment venue.  They were so restrictive with comments and words being deleted and changed that many thoughts were not correctly shown.  Also there seemed to be extreme paranoia that someone would inject a website and get some free publicity.  WE ALL look at other websites and to act like we don't or that we can't share that is very strange to me and I think they strangled themselves trying to over control the people that joined.  It is supposed to be fun.........

Welp, you don't have to worry about that here LPS. Sometimes,  the almighty dollar makes folks do some strange things.
I always thought that information should be shared freely, that's why I  pay out of my pocket to keep the lights on. As long as folks are active, I don't charge anything for advertising.

Anyway. ..making groups more exclusive sounds like a closed group, and not very welcoming. Jmo....

That's the problem...it was no longer any fun. Too restrictive, yet some posts were allowed depending on certain whims, others were not. Certain sets of rules you had to follow as a mod. I'd get continual complaints about people rambling and posting off topic things, yet when I'd nicely PM them, as where the mod rules they'd ignore it, then I'd get more crap from the others about not doing anything to those posters ...it was ridiculous. Got sick of it. I'll  probably get booted from my mod status and off the site ( that was another word that was automatically changed) for writing this here, but what the hey, that's life in the big city, right? Let's end that one right there. No more discussion from me on that. Like Forrest said, "and that's all I know about THAT". 

Anyway, I love THIS SITE.

YUPPER DOOOO, Thats why ivebben trying to get you guys over here for a few years now, glad you finally home.
 thats what happens when it aint broke...dont fix it. HSO was fine for me till it split, I wnated 1 site to scroll thru not 2 even tho it was the same entity, but when you click on ice fishing for a thread then have to go over to FM to find a LOW thread it just sucked. pluse I got banned 3 times for having way to much fun. I know glenn and I cant help feed off eachother, but hey its comic relief. things get pretty much answerd, lots of great info and a hell of lot of fun!! hope we get soem new guys at Ice apalooza this year!!

The only thing that peeved me  from hso was all the changes, everytime they switched it you could see people leaving.  Not too mention all the people willing to argue about anything. This is way better here, keep up the good work HD and all, and thanks for having us.

I  was just wondering is all...cause even Facebook is diversifying into separate groups, and there is a lot of complaints inside those groups.
I don't want that to happen here...
Other forum websites, you have to pay to be apart of their group. I feel you shouldn't have to pay for free information. I mean, it only costs a couple hundred bucks a year to keep the sight going...where can you get this much entertainment for that cheap per year?

I used FM and the grand rapids forum as my go to for lotz of info on the cabin area but that went dead. goes for a couple months for replies. seems only Gunner and I post there.

I wish there was a better Ice Fishing site than HSO but I haven't found it if it exists. FM is dead but HSO, because of a lot of MNO guys, is still my favorite. Ice Shanty covers too much area and In Depth outdoors is a bunch of sissy's that do polls on stupid stuff like "What's your favorite jig?". Lake State Fishing is great but just doesn't get much traffic. Any others out there? HSO is a poorly managed PITA but where does an Ice guy go?

I've been kicked off HSO too many times to count for extremely trivial opinions or posts with non competitive links that have products people were looking for. They're too stupid to realize what they had and too stupid to ever get it back. I've been told it's all Rick pissing people off, but I don't know that for a fact.

Iceshanty is/was a great site, but just like HSO, ANY mention of ANY other site, and WHAMMO!!! your post disappears. There's a group of mods from NY that are tight buddies, oversee and zap just about anything and everything they want.....and they're untouchable, in the owners pocket, so it seems. Turned into tons of complaints against them, but the owner (Rick) refused to deal with it. He also refuses to address any PM's from members, which should tell you something right there.
Sad thing, is there's some really great people on there, with vast knowledge, and some hilarious humor. I gave up my column over there after about 5 years of the good ol' boy crap, and moved on.... along with a quite a few others. Too many sites seems to have that happen. It' still a great site for great info, if you don't get too involved. Not meaning to trash the site, just watch what you do.
