With the eminent snowfall coming, I put the green house tops back on the raised beds. Already have cukes, radishes, peas and Green Beanscoming up....

Snowed pretty good here this morn,Since not a drop a rain of flake a snow.
 Heres a pic of the radar right now,an it aint hittin the ground I'm ENE a Willmar an SE of Spicer.I wonder if the weather peoople are wrong again?/

Does asparagus expand by root or seed?

So................If I apply Preen to this new plot, the only way that I can expand it going forward, is only by putting plugs in? (established plants)

we always planted started plants so not sure but you could be right on that thought.

World Naked Gardening Day is May 6th. Are you prepared?

World Naked Gardening Day is an opportunity to pull weeds, plant flowers, and harvest vegetables while getting some sun where it doesn’t usually shine.

While you might get a little dirty, the intention is good, clean, fun in the sun, and a move towards becoming more comfortable in our skin with “non-sexual nudity.”



nspired by World Naked Bike Ride events, Mark Storey (consulting editor for Nude & Natural magazine) and permaculturalist Jacob Gabriel founded World Naked Gardening Day as a project of Body Freedom Collaborative (BFC). Some of Storey’s other mischievous pranks are rooted in guerrilla gardening in urban environments.



Corky Stanton of Clothes Free International assisted Storey with web hosting and promotion of the project. Stanton also provided web hosting and promotion for World Naked Bike Ride from the beginning of the project.

The event is not intended to be a large gathering at any particular location, but something people can practice on their own time and at their own will, however they please. Storey notes in the New York Daily News that,

    “No particular organization owns World Naked Gardening Day.”

The website acted as a seed for the concept, which has been left to grow organically on its own through participants providing the necessary nutrients in order for it to continue to grow.



The first annual World Naked Gardening Day event took place on September 10, 2005. In 2007, the event date was moved to the first Saturday in May where it still takes place to this day. The day before, International Permaculture Day, also takes place on the first Sunday of May.

Beyond the fact that the event is fitting to coincide with good weather, the objective was not to conflict with with the World Naked Bike Ride. Besides, spring is the ideal time of year to be in the garden anyway.

The event is intended to be non-political, and more about creating a positive body self-image.

    “It’s not about exposing your body to other people,” said Stanton, in an interview with Today. “It’s about body acceptance and being one with nature on your own. … We actually do these events in secluded areas.”

Asparagus expands by both seeds and roots. As long as you have female plants growing. They develope little red balls that are the seeds. They will come up the next year. But those little plants take a long time to produce spears big enough to eat.

Does asparagus expand by root or seed?

Both. But with those baby roots it will be awhile before they produce any seed or asparagus to eat anyway. And you would also have to have both male and female plants. Guessing by the size of your plants it will be 3 years before you harvest anything of any size from them.

And Mike, unless you want to see something that might hurt your eyes, don't come for my asparagus on the 6th of May!

This might be OK for the missus removing dead heads from the geraniums, but it ain't goona fly when I have to chop through tree roots with a garden spade to put in new edging.

I'm not your mummy. Ground too cold, waiting on transplanting. Truth is I haven't planted a thing yet but am planning on doing it tomorrow. Ah tomorrow, the best day for any worthwhile project.

You got that cold part right. Planted three token rows of radishes on the 23rd to say I'd done it. Just started coming up last night and this morning.
