Trying to keep up with the peppers, actually have enough canned stuff for now. Might as well smoke em , dry em then chop em for seasoning.

We have officially shut the garden down for the year.  The wife has a few tomatoes she is waiting to turn red and the taters will be dug late fall.  The cupboards are full and it's time to get ready for bow hunting.

Used crushed up seasoned croutons, slice 'maters 1/4" thick, dip in egg, then croutons, fry in deep pan in oil until golden brown, turning once, the Reb-o-riffic way! Ya want I should come up there and slice 'em up for ya too??!! :doah: I 'spsoe ya haven't seen the movie by the same name, either!!

hey reb, maybe you can help me out?? I gotz so darn many green maters yet. so I be trying an experiment and I don't remember how this goes???????  is it you but green maters in a brown bag put them in a warm spot and they ripen faster, or is it put ripe maters in a brown bag and put in a cool spot to keep them for an extended period of time?

either way I/m looking to speed up the ripening process!!!!!!!!!

Why speed it up? Slow ripen, I'm eating fresh ones at Thanksgiving every year!! Really! OK, here's how it goes: wrap 2 or 3 in a 1/4 sheet of newspaper, continue on until all wrapped, then I put the pile in a cardboard box down in basement where it's COOL.  Takes about a month to turn red, or even longer. If ya put them all together, I find it doesn't work as well. 2 or 3 works best. If ya GOTTA hurry, put a bunch in paper sack where it's room temp, and toss an apple in. 'maters and apples give off the same gas (ethylene)  that helps them ripen...and yes, they really DO taste like rigdht off the vine.  :azn:
