We have a few Native Americans at our work that get a check every month. Their allotment every month amounts to a little less than $100...kind of hard to make a living on that.

So I believe there is a lot of that "BIG" government also going on in the sovereign nation as well.

Anaway....I went  :offtopic: :sorry:

The pic posted reminds me of my younger days traveling to Roseau Mn goose hunting in the mid 70's,straight north through the red lake rez,at night it was scary as the natives would be hunting deer/shinning off the hiway, herd stories of them taking pot shots at passing cars....Day trips through the rez we would see all the houses the gov't built for these folks back in the 50's,rambler homes complete with furnishings,by the time we traveled through these houses were nothing but shells of what they once were, completely gutted including windows and doors all gone, some say the natives sold these items, who knows but this is the way they chose to live, sad deal.

There's the key. Their choice, so stop whining for special privileges about fishing and wiping out half of ta species, by netting and leaving piles of them to rot that you don't want!!!!! Isn't your heritage about respecting the living creatures and not wasting them?!

I to have seen that back in the 60's & 70's north of Cass Lake.  My great Aunt ans Uncle had a small resort on Big Lake.  so spent a few summers there in high school and after I got out of service I'd still go up there.  but the govt. built stuff, homes a school even stripped of any thing to sell
a bad day of fishing is still better than a good day at work!!

Got some of those right down the road from us here, can't be 3 miles (LL Res). Most built in the late 80's to early 90's, they're still livin in them but I'm not sure I would be. Most are OK, some should be demoed, a few have been kept up.

Seems that things last longer when a person has to work and pay for it themselves... ;)
