I have been on a quest for some time now to catch a stripper or white bass.....neither, to which I have ever caught.

Some guy's on FM sent me to the St. Croix, and it turned out to be a bust. Other friends told me to go to Sodak or Nodak to catch these fish.....

I'd rather stick close to this state to catch one......where should I go? (not looking for hot spots) Just want to catch one fish to cross it off the bucket list.....

The Mississippi, maybe? They are all over the place here including the Miss. Hardly a lake, reservoir, or river without them. The hybrids grow pretty well here and they sure are a fun fight on the end of your line. Here the bite for them is just picking up.

I used to catch lots of them on the St. Croix when trolling crankbaits upriver from Stillwater.  Good fighters too.

And I do believe there is only one p in Striper the fish.  A Stripper which is a fine specimen too is something else entirely!!!!    ;)

Barry was the first to say it!...but I've caught a few strippers, too.  :rotflmao:  Try Lake Pepin or if ya head south, the Zumbro has them too. Used to have a blast with them, they put up a great fight. Use a 1/16 yellow or chartreuse Mr. Twister tipped with a crappie minnow....get in on a school of them, and they'll hit the empty jighead as fast as ya can throw it out there. I think this was from the day we caught 45 C&R, just for fun, although they are OK eating early in the year. Smoke well, too.

If you should after some stripers near Stillwater you can also cross the river and then you are in Houlton WI.  At the top of the hill to your left is or was a strip joint.  AND it is a lot of fun too...  Stripers and Strippers within a mile of each other.  Doesn't get any better than that...

Dat me in my Rebelss! No doobage though, Just a coffin nail, which I finally quit doing quite a while ago. Usually only smoked when it was cold out, and it was rainy and cold that day. See I've got my Sealskin waterproof gloves on in that pic...wore those a lot on rainy, cold days...the best days for fishing.  Pic is from late October...
