Need Bait? Try “Sawing Up Worms” For Fishing

Apparently, this is a method originating in Arkansas that allows you to collect worms that are ready to be used as bait.

Termed as “The McCulloch (Chainsaw) Technique”, it’s certainly one of the more interesting methods we’ve come across for gathering bait.

Sawing Up Worms

1. Begin by driving a 3-foot wooden stake 6 to 8 inches deep in loamy soil.

2. Place the wide bottom of a running chainsaw, with the cutting chain either removed or disengaged, on top of the stake.

3. Wait for the worms to surface as they are coaxed from the soil by the chainsaw’s vibrations.

We used to take those big fork type rotisseries shafts with the wooden handle, and solder one side of a regular power cord to one tine, and the other half of the cord to the other tine, plug it in, and put it in the ground. The worms fairly flew out! I learned this when I was about 12 yo from my buddies Dad, who was a southern boy from Searcy, Arkansas. He said that's how they did it down there...

I tell ya what Rebaloney.....I did this as a lad.....Watered the grass, put the big forks in, and turned on the juice! The worms came up like CRAZY!

Word of caution though.....unplug the juice before you pick up the worms......lesson learned!  :banghead:

Well, all I can say is, do NOT set it on one of those metal patio tables of the 70's. *ZZZT*POW* Or, how to blacken an outlet, blow half the fuses in the house, and get smacked upside the head by your Dad.  :doah:
